I can't stand nursery workers.

Nearly every day I see childcare workers taking children on "outings" or collecting children from school to after school clubs.Literally everyday these "carers"(in the loosest possible sense of the word)are approx 18yrs old, talking to their friends on their phones/talking about who they "got off" with last night/how much they drank last night or where they were going tonight and totally ignoring the children who are in their care, apart from the occassional"Jack get here!"THEY SHOW NO AFFECTION FOR THESE KIDS! Who would pay a fortune for these people to look after their children????

There is a day nursery where I live, and I've regularly seen precisely what the OP describes. I know this will win me no NM popularity points. I've never seen nursery workers on a school run, 'tis true, but I've seen them taking the children out for walks on leads, talking over their heads and on their mobiles. Of course, mothers do that too - but given that parents are paying hundreds of pounds a month for this, I think it's pretty crapulous.

But at the little nursery school that my DCs went to, the staff were all older (all had grown-up children), and treated the children as if they were their own. So I don't think you can generalise about all nursery workers any more than you can generalise about all nurseries.

i happily pay a lot for nursery nurses to ignore and neglect my children.allows me to work and maintain avaricious life

oh and yes best if staff are young means nursery can pay em less and rack up profits

Hmmm op hasn't returned to debate her post!?!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 25/04/2010 20:29

I find OP's on threads like this often don't come back I wonder why

scottishmummy · 25/04/2010 20:32

i love the ole cliché threads.dem reprobate nursery nurses and their cold ways

working mums, you lot next

lupo · 25/04/2010 22:35

sounds like the nusery where I used to work, 18 year olds on minimum wage, a disaster and accident waiting to happen

scottishmummy · 25/04/2010 22:40

minimum wage,daft young uns.neglectful parents.what a great idea.think of the profits

Tryharder · 26/04/2010 07:41

I understand the vitriol against the OP because I think her thread title is badly worded and inflammatory. However, from what she writes, I don't think she is referring to nursery workers (i.e carers looking after preschool children and babies) but to after school club workers who are usually college students, are they not?

I don't think kids of a school age need affection or constant attention from people other than their parents; surely they can play with the other children quite happily in the few hours they are in the care of the club. But I actually agree that conversations about drunken nights out and sexual activity are inappropriate (as they are in any work setting) and if I found out that my child was privy to those, I would complain and I'm sure plenty of others on here would!

better go and have a with my childminder friends, after all thats all we do all day osnt it?

Lizzzombie · 26/04/2010 07:57

I love my son's nursery nurses.
Some of his key workers have been very young but I think its the kind of job where you need plenty of energy and they bring that to the environment in bucket loads.
Just because they talk about what they got up to at the weekend it doesn't mean they are any less responsible in their jobs.

GothAnneGeddes · 26/04/2010 10:00

One day I came a bit early (from smoking crack and stealing cars)to pick up dd from nursery. She was in the changing room and I could hear her key worker talking to her. The way she was singing to her and making her laugh while changing her nappy, was just lovely.

So YABVVVU.

OMG you are so right........................(splutter cough choke!)
i am a nursery officer. I am over 30 with over 14 years experience. i have level 3 qualification which in 2 months will be level 4. i am studying for a degree in early years. I have worked in nurseries, been a nanny and a childminder as well as having 2 children myself. I get paid £5.85 per hour. I love my job. I work with some fab girls who are only 18 and who are fantstic with the kids. Can i suggest what you have seen is a small snap shot and not general for the childcare proffession! please take your judgey pants off and stop classing us all in same group.
I RUN AN AFTER SCHOOL CLUB!

You need to move to my town

YesYouMust · 26/04/2010 13:32

Has a think

Can i be bothered?

Hmmm

Nah

Hassled · 26/04/2010 13:33

My DD is a part-time nursery worker. She gets paid about tuppence and works incredibly hard. She does it because she enjoys spending time with, and is interested in, young children - and you wouldn't do that job for that money unless you had those reasons.

tethersend · 26/04/2010 13:41

YANBU.

I also can't stand people with faces.

And knees.

Stupid face-and-knee-having bastards.

YesYouMust · 26/04/2010 13:43

PMSL tethersend

How are in regard to false knees?

Hassled · 26/04/2010 13:43

Do 18 year olds really talk about who they "got off" with anymore? I used to "get off" with spotty youths in the early 80s - I need to consult with aforementioned DD for current terminology.

tethersend · 26/04/2010 13:47

Depends, YesYouMust... do they have faces?

YesYouMust · 26/04/2010 13:48

I think the knobbly ones do.

tethersend · 26/04/2010 13:53

Knee/face/knee-having bastards.

jonicomelately · 26/04/2010 13:53

All depends really on the people concerned.

I've used a nursery for my two and been quite happy.

Having said that I wait outside a nursery every day to pick up ds1 from the bus. I can hear and see how they interact with the kids and tbh I wouldn't let them look after my dog.

I've never used CM but see a few around town regularly who are great. Having said that there is one I see all the time and I think she's a complete cow. She doesn't ever seem to respond to childrens' questions and ingores them when they are crying.

Just my opinion.

YesYouMust · 26/04/2010 14:06

People who have opinions - Now there is a group of people who want shooting!
