CARGIRL!! That is my dream! If you have 2 dishwashers you can take stuff out of one, use it and put it straight into the other one! Hmmm That is actually possible in my kitchen if I just rip out one more cupboard...........

I put our slimline one on every night before going to bed. Its doing the dishes for me now while I do mumsnet/ravelry.
then I empty it while i wait for the kettle to boil in the morning.

We have such a small kitchen I don't actually have to move to empty it - just sort of lean across to cupboards. A slimline was our only option due to space and just takes a day's stuff. But I think i'd get a slimline again in a bigger kitchen - my friend has a full sized one, two adults and one child, they only put theirs on every 3-4 days when its full. Which I think is bleururrururugghhghghg.

BUT after each meal she runs a washing up bowl full of hot water and washes pans and knives saying 'we use these all the time', yet only puts the dishwasher on twice a week because they are on a water meter.... eh????

And they went out and spent a fortune on new crockery because they kept running out of clean stuff before the dishwasher was full.

Slimline every time for me!

I heard they were more efficient when used efficiently, if you see what I mean.

Agree about the marriage-saving potential of dishwashers. Just hearing all that swishing of water whilst you are sitting there doing something else is the best sound you can hear in the evening when you are tired. Sounds like eco-washers are the way to go for you.

I got one as my DH is rubbish at washing up and I was fed up of having to re-wash everything after having cooked and served up dinner every night.
He can get an Eco dishwasher, just make sure all the ratings on it at 'A' or at least 'B' and you only need to put it on every two or three days at the most.
Just stack it after every meal, put it on rinse (5 min programe) and then when it's full put it on 'Eco' and its used less hot water than 3 or 4 days of washing up.
Best of all, you will have more time and the dishes will be lovely and clean

I wouldn't be without mine. I just don't want to wash up I hardly ever use my TD, never have the heating on if I can help it etc but I LOVE my dishwasher! Things end up cleaner. Fact. It saves masses of time and old women hands

if you've got the cash, get a miele or similar - they last forever so greener. it is the manufacturing which makes them ungreen - they are better than doing it by hand in terms of washing (apparently...). bear in mind the eco options always last forever so we run ours overnight!
to really be effective you need to make sure all your pots, pans, cutlery and crockery is dishwasher proof (no le creuset or wooden handles!) otherwise you end up doing handwashing anyway...

My kitchens titchy. I could sell the washing machine and the dryer and buy a washer dryer, then I'd have space for a dishwasher or get a really small tabletop dishwasher. Hmm.

Can't you get a small tabletop dishwasher Jen?

For people with no space At my last house I had the tiniest kicthen so got a worktop dishwasher. I then put it where the piles of washing up waiting to be washed normally sat.

go on go on go on

YANBU - get one, it will change your life - did for me! Also think it was the One Show on BBC last year that proved they are more green than hand washing

Flibberty that is bonkers

My parents don't put pans in their dishwasher which I find weird, or a lot of their glasses so they still have loads of washing up to do. I shove everything in and it all comes sparkly.

I never pre-rinse my dishes, what on earth is the point if you are running the dishwasher every day??
