I have two washing baskets in my kitchen. One is labelled "30 degrees. Washing powder and fabric softener", the other is labelled "60 degrees. Washing powder and nappisan".

If you were my very clever and helpful (and usually sensible) DP, who had just shooed me out of the kitchen so he could have space to do housework while I entertained the children and had a brew (very lovely of him), what would you take the labels to mean? Where would you put which items of laundry?

I was iffy about labelling the baskets to start with, it was mainly for my own good, but now I am wondering if I need more labels?

Also, if colours run, it happens in the wash, yes? Not because the stuff stayed in the machine for a couple of hours afterwards?

Im sorry OP but anyone whom labels washing baskets to me ABU

I saw a response to one of the replies here it said the rules in our house is If you do chores you do them your way if someone else doesnt like how you did it they can do it their way I think thats a great way to look at it..

Also no I wouldnt agree it is simple to get nappisan? is that just for nappies? is it for dirty clothes too? what about the pretty silken material dress that has
strawberry stains on it should that not need nappisan but can it only go onto a 30 wash?

I do all the washing in our house as I dont want to have issues over the washing we are 7 people in the house never once has it occured to me to label the washing baskets lol

Me too Lonnie, although we are only three people. We can only use the laundry room once a week so our stuff is generally light colours, dark colours and bedding/towels.
Can someone tell me why they don't use fabric conditioner?

Napisan is a soaker.

I used to put it in the nappy bucket with water and soak the nappies overnight and then all they needed next day was a rinse in the machine.

Stayed beautifully white and fluffy and was able to use them for DD three years later.

I then used to use it to soak white socks, singlets, white t shirts. etc. (Still do use it for this purpose).

I don't use fabric conditioner - mainly because I've got no idea why I would want to. I have a vague feeling from half-remembered adverts that it makes your clothes smell? Our clothes seem to do fine as they are (all chucked in together at 30 degrees).

about a year ago, dh and ds1 were putting washing into the dryer and had an arguement about the settings it should be on. On at least 2 occasions.

They came to me for adjudication - each time ds1 was right - he was 3 going on 4 at the time . DH was not so impressed. DS very excited to know more than daddy.

get 'em doing it young I reckon - somehow I have managed to wangle it that ds1 loves helping out with things like putting on washing/drying, mopping, hoovering etc so he is allowed to help if he is a good boy (and he can actually do a pretty reasonable job) so it is a win-win all round as he is good and then does the housework has fun doing some hoovering etc while I mumsnet do other vital chores
