to ask a pharmacist to tell me if my daughter has a verruca?

Actually it was her tone which upset me more than anything. When I asked her if she could have a look she said in a terse voice "No, I don't do feet, you'll have to look yourself - if there is a black spot in the centre its a verruca".

I then asked if it was covered under the pharmacy's treatment of "minor injuries" and she snapped back "its not a minor injuries clinic, its a minor ailments clinic, and no, we don't cover it".

I've never had a verruca, so didn't know what one looked like, but surely it was reasonable to ask the pharmacist to take a look? In the end, the shop assistant did, and she confirmed it was a verruca.

(Its not the first time this pharmacist has been "off" with me either - not sure she knows what customer service is!)

If there are any pharmacists out there that think I'm wrong, please tell me, I'm never sure WHAT you are allowed to ask them!

I'm not a pharmacist but it seems a perfectly reasonable request to me. Try a different pharmacy?

JustMyTwoPenceWorth · 20/04/2010 16:18

regardless, I don't think there was any need for her to speak to you rudely.

MaryBS · 20/04/2010 16:20

I go to that one because it is the village pharmacy, and so we can walk there, otherwise I'd definitely go elsewhere!

I wouldn't call a verruca a 'minor injury' but it would certainly be a 'minor ailment' - so by her own definition she should have helped you.

Mind you I wouldn't want to be looking at everyone's feet either. No need to be rude though!

On the plus side she did give you all the info you need to id a verruca!

yabu - she is a pharmacist and looking at verrucas is icky. you could have googled it.

CantSupinate · 20/04/2010 18:09

I can't tell the difference between verrucas and corns -- neither could my old GP it turned out (she said I had corns but turned out to be verrucas).

Sorry to hear pharamacist was so rude to you, OP. That was totally out of order.

YesYouMust · 20/04/2010 18:12

Yes it does come under their minor ailments. Yes Bariatric she could have googled but instead chose to ask someone who should know instead, silly her.

YANBU. Isn't that what the pharmacy minor ailments clinic is all about?

MaryBS · 20/04/2010 19:23

I could have googled it yes, and self-diagnosed. I could also have misdiagnosed, which is why I went to the pharmacist in the first place!

I would have thought that they'd be used to seeing far worse than what looks like a patch of hard skin on a child's foot!

yanbu - we keep being told we don't use our pharmacists enough, but everytime I've asked one for advice about me or my DD (and I've tried different ones) I've never had any help from them.
