I've truly seen it all now.
This man is supposedly an inteligent man, he leads a country for goodness sake.
Now, I'm a religious person, but saying this in the name of religion is foolish and wrong I think????

Ah Riven, you beat me to pointing out that there are plenty of equally bonkers, woman-hating, homophobic Christians as well as mad mullahs. There's probably a nutty Rabbi or two waiting in the wings to blame it all on us lot eating bacon sandwiches, as well...

(Please note I am not insulting specific faiths here. I think all religion is equally stupid but not all believers in religions are malevolent and stupid)

I bet the Iranian geologists are really impressed at how their country is portrayed by this nonsense. It does sound as though plate tectonics has passed them by and the country is full of people doing rain dances and believing in Zeus's thunderbolt etc.
Good to know some men think we are that powerful, although you think they'd spot that liberal Sweden doesn't get many earthquakes.

I had to post this one to facebook. Beggars belief.

SGB, yes I bet the American fundamentalist right would concur with this guy.

gagamama · 21/04/2010 12:17

Maybe Iranians have incredibly vigorous adulterous sex which actually rocks the country if enough people do it at the same time? He might have a point... it's good to be cautious.

SpeedyGonzalez · 21/04/2010 12:26

Riven - oh yes, you've just reminded me that Pat Robertson also blamed the Haitians' deal signed with the Devil (an actual deal, not a metaphorical one) on their earthquake.

These fellas are priceless, aren't they? Who needs professional comedians?

Blu · 21/04/2010 12:54

Well, thee could be something in it. DS's old nursery teacher told them that the sun was not out because God was not pleased with us.
So you could see how he could really follow-through if all the pasta is in the naughty jar. One volcano for every year of our age.

wahwahwah · 21/04/2010 12:56

I am sorry but it was actually me. DS was being very naughty and I was yelling.

Sorry about that. It had been a long Easter break and that is no excuse. Watch out for the end of Summer break.

Iklboo · 21/04/2010 12:57

If DS's nursery teacher told him the sun wasn't coming out because god wasn't pleased there would be words. And more than likely a Iklboo Paddington Bear Hard Stare

bathbuns · 21/04/2010 13:08

My favourite Pat Robertson quote is this:

'Feminism is a socialist, anti-family, political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians'

I think he would be a good candidate to come and do a mumsnet chat

bathbuns, that is brilliant! That man is going to become my mentor one day, I can just feel it!

Gibbo68 · 21/04/2010 14:13

Clearly not an intelligent Man, he believes that there's an invisible Man watching him all the time !

biddysmama · 21/04/2010 14:38

omg, i have put on some weight this regnancy but not enough to cause an earthquake!

msrisotto · 21/04/2010 14:46

bathbuns that quote had me rofl, pmsl etc etc

Mental.

pedrothellama · 21/04/2010 14:57

So what could we achieve if we really tried hard to offend?

Shag, drink, smoke and dress like a hooker girls - lets see if we can part the Red Sea or something really spectacular.

My boss is looking scared

pedrothellama · 21/04/2010 15:12

Bathbuns - that is exactly what happened to me!! I shall never read The Woman's Room again - I promise

Life was kinda fun though......particularly the witchcraft and lesbianism bit

ChickensHaveSinisterMotives · 21/04/2010 15:22

I think its a marvellous example of fear being at the heart of all women-hatred. They fear our (overexaggerated) power

cupcakesandbunting · 21/04/2010 15:26

I find it ever so slightly amusing

No-one really takes these nutjobs seriously. Surely he is Iran's equivalent of Nick Griffin? And look how seriously he gets taken...

GardenPath · 21/04/2010 15:26

'If thine eyes offend thee, pluck them out'

zobopopstar · 21/04/2010 15:53

i think it's weird that a religion that was so scientifically advanced 1000 years ago, has men with such backward ideas as its figureheads now. then again, there are parts of the developed west that advocate teaching children creationist theory

CJK1 · 21/04/2010 16:01

I hate to think of the damage I caused when my bikini top pinged undone on hoiday. I shall be setting up an appeal fund immediately. Please feel to donate via PayPal.

SeaGreen · 21/04/2010 16:25

Moron.

Bet some idiots out there believe him too.

Miggsie · 21/04/2010 17:01

I vote we rename the San Andreas Fault as Shagging Women's Fault.

I shall ensure my dinner service has only tectonic plates from now on.
