About 2 months ago my dishwasher died .Not a national disaster I know but a PITA when you have 4 DC's. Anyway our finances have been in a pretty desperate state for the last year since I lost my job so when the dishwasher blew up getting a man out just to take a look at it let alone fix it has not been an option. Anyway today I open a letter from a mate offering me some money (cheque in with the letter) to pay for it to be fixed or to get a new one! I sat on the floor and cried for 5 minutes and got to thinking that I am quick enough to moan when people let me down or say the wrong thing but for once I want a positive AIBU so heads up and let's think of the positive. We've had threads before to vent about crap things in our lives so why not one to show how we sometimes see the best in people and the huge impact that can make! I want you all to hug the trees and smell the flowers and give off positive vibes

Thats lovely of your friend. you are lucky to have such a nice RL friend

Mouseface · 20/04/2010 14:19

Great idea hobs....

I got a letter form the bank today to say they have accepted my claim for my credit card - PPI - as I had to give up working to care for my disabled DS.

Nealy £6,000 of debt wiped out, just like that!!! 1 down, 2 to go.

So, WOOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!!!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 20/04/2010 14:26

Fab news Mouse! It just turned my whole week around getting that letter and made me feel cared for which I know sounds cheesy but mine and DH's families are about as much use as a chocolate teapot so nice to feel looked after for once! and even better to feel that on the whole I am far to quick to see the bad side of other people! (note to self)

YABU - no dishwasher IS a national disaster!

Nice idea for a thread though - I remember feeling this way when a tutor of mine at university took time out to really help me when I was going through a rough time.

People really can make a difference to your life by random acts of kindness. So, yeah, let's spread it about a bit!

Mouseface · 20/04/2010 14:32

Hobs - meant to say how lovley of your friend too. Keep spreading that joy!!

thumbwitch · 20/04/2010 14:34

No YANBU to spread a little happiness - if more people did it then it would be lovely.

What a great friend indeed - it's the little things like that which really make the difference, isn't it. (Although considering it must have been a 3 figure cheque, not that "little" a thing really!)

Wish I could add something to the general happiness spread but haven't anything at the mo - but have a anyway.

I'm feeling decadent with my
today and only wish I could begin to explain to this fab friend what an amazing sense of timing she has.

I managed to get my ex-employer to see sense and do the paperwork for my final pay in this tax year (which is when I was actually paid). And I only had to be moderately assertive!

DS gave me two lovely hugs today (he's 1)

The sun is shining and it's a beautiful day.

I feel a song coming on

That is fab I love things like this. I always try to "pay it forward" as well, even if I can't straight away I will keep it in my mind until I can.

e.g. I have just bought 5 metres of stretchy cotton jersey on ebay and am going to make a wrap for a friend with a velcro newborn baby and turn up and show her how to put it on. Ssh! It's a surprise

There is a theory - a bit like Karma - which is that the universe will always provide you with what you need, as long as you don't hold onto things you have no need for.

meltedmarsbars · 20/04/2010 14:48

Today I've been and cut the lawn of a mum in the village who's dh died last week.

Thats my Good Deed for the day.

Mouseface · 20/04/2010 15:30

Seriously, that's really nice of you.

Dollytwat · 20/04/2010 15:38

What a lovely thread!

I had suspected appendicitis a week ago and my friend came to the hospital, gave me moral support, took me home, cooked roast chicken for me and my boys and was generally lovely. I don't know what I'd do without her she's truly a lovely friend.

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 20/04/2010 15:42

My SIL had DS for the school run so I could have a blood test in peace and then took me across town in the car to save me having to push him for a 6 mile round trip (32 weeks pg) to get some paperwork checked for a free nursery place!

I could have managed without her but OMG it was much easier with her help

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 20/04/2010 16:15

Bertie I love the thought of a baby made of velcro that really has made me giggle

mumwifemaggie · 20/04/2010 16:20

My 2 year old told me she loved me yesterday, without prompting! That kind of think makes you feel

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 20/04/2010 16:22

What a lovely thread!

I have nothing to share, just wanted to send you all my positive thoughts

meltedmarsbars · 20/04/2010 19:32

Mouseface - I don't need the halo or wings, its called Village Life. I take another friend shopping because she lost her driving licence due to her poor eyesight.

People are "givers" or "receivers" in life, and while I can, it's nice to give. And one day the receivers can pay back by doing something for someone else.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 21/04/2010 10:43

Another beautiful day and still in my tree hugging mood anyone care to join me and think positive thoughts and spread happy vibes

OP posts:
BessieBoots · 21/04/2010 10:47

Ooooh lovely thread!
Last night, my lovely DH made a 4-hour round trip with me and the 2 DCs, just so that I could go to a party-reception type thing in which my work was praised. It was a massive hassle for him, but he did it just so's I could feel good.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 21/04/2010 11:34

This thread just proves to me that for most people it's not about big grand gestures just a little bit of support and help can have a huge impact

OP posts:
Mouseface · 21/04/2010 11:50

Melted - didn't mean to offend.

We live in a small village too and I love the community spirit. Our neighbours help me out with disabled DS all the time.

And I always pay it forward.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 21/04/2010 11:53

I'm loving this thread I mean how often do you see a thread on AIBU where people apologise to each other

OP posts:
Alicetheinvisible · 21/04/2010 12:04

Lovely

I started a thread thanking the RAC a couple of months ago. Felt people are always so quick to complain about things on here especially (its a good place to rant!) but very rarely do we hear of people doing good deeds and helping people.

Mouseface · 21/04/2010 12:05

Gosh hobnobs, have I offended you too? So sorry, please forgive me
