To be getting really fed up with my neighbiour now

grrr, we have 2 cats, chickens and 2 dc, she tries to steal the cats, feeds them, brushs them etc, we have to go round every evening att he same time to get the cat back, and yes I know cats choose where they want to live but if you feed them they will stay there.
She is always walking down my garden and openeing the chicken run, filing the chooks food and water up and generally messing about with them, giving them treats etc. I know she is being nice but I like to have my own garden as my own space.
Lsast year she called the rspca on us because the broody hen we borrowed to hatch some eggs wasn't moving much, even though she had food and water in reach etc, the rspca told her to co co basically.
We are getting a puppy, I am so excited and it something that we have thought very long and hard about. I have just had a mother style lecture off her in the garden about being mad and my poor cats and chickens and what on earth do I think I am doing and what about when her visitors go through my garden etc.
I wish she would just f off sometimes, I am in most of the day so have to be nice, she treats my dc with absolute disdain.
I love my house and one of the main reasons is because of my lovely garden which I wish she would just stay out of. grrr

she has 2 cats of her own, she spends the whole time yelling at them, and her tortoise, who is by all accounts a very naughty tortoise.

You do sound very unhappy and irritated. But think about this because you're missing great opportunities and being rather unkind to this woman.

Your neighbour has no fences between your garden and her garden. What you do has an direct impact on her life and enjoyment of her own home. She has tolerated your growing menagerie and tried to help you in many ways.

Some neighbours would not have behaved so nicely or tried to be a friend to you. You are really very lucky because good neighbours like this are so hard to find!

If you were canny, you'd make the most of this and realise that a good neighbour who will help with pets saves you a small fortune in minders or boarding. Everybody needs holidays, everyone gets sick from time to time. If you start building the relationship, she'd know what is most helpful and you'd get an understanding of how your choices affect people around you.

Can I borrow her? I've got shitloads of gardening that needs doing.

Seriously though, I would inform the police if she continues to do this and I would consider either cutting of her access to see how she likes being affected by a neighbours actions or sending her a solicitors letter. Can you find out whether you would be within your rights to cut off her access if she is tampering with your property?

Tiredmumno1 · 26/04/2010 11:23

@ naughty tortoise

ditavionteased · 26/04/2010 12:38

my cousin is a solicitor and I did wonder about talking to him about access. he dealt with our move so knows the basics.
Mihtiganwif it is not a shared garden, it is my garden which she has access across, she has her own garden which I would never dream of going in to.
I appreciate that she thinks she is being nice, which is why I think it has got this far, I love my garden, I love my chooks but I must admit this whole thing is making me want to rehome them. I was talking to my mum and she told me basically to grow a pair and tell her.
Also would worry about if we ever wanted to move you have to declare any neighboour disputes, although we weren't told that the people we bought the house off had called the police on her until after we moved in.

Dollytwat · 26/04/2010 12:39

does she think it's a shared garden?

what did the previous owners have to call the police about, do you know?

ditavionteased · 26/04/2010 12:46

I only have a vague idea of her side of the story, but something to do with her cats pooing in oyur garden and them throwing it over into her garden and I think she may have gone mad at their dc.

very similar, the roa is across the back of the house although there is no actual path as such, just our patio.

saslou · 26/04/2010 13:22

I have heard that if the person you bought the house from, failed to tell you about a neighbour dispute then you might be able to get some money back from them. I would check this with your solicitor

sparechange · 26/04/2010 13:28

Mihtiganwif
are you on drugs?

"She has tolerated your growing menagerie and tried to help you in many ways."

I must remember to ask the police to pass on my sincere thanks and gratitude to the robbing little shits who burgled us, because they had put up with our growing accumulation of clutter household goods and really gave us the imputus we needed to redecorate by trashing our hallway. And it is so comforting to know they must have been casing keeping an eye on our house for us for all those weeks. Invaluable when we go on holiday!

Dollytwat · 26/04/2010 13:34

maybe Mihtiganwif is the neighbour

Conundrumish · 26/04/2010 13:37

Agree with your mum - grow a pair and tell her or she will be taking your dog out for walks when you are not looking.

Buy an electric fence and an alsation - she sounds totally barking.

dawntigga · 26/04/2010 15:43

If you buy and electric fence, don't whiz on it.

that is funny, used to love ren and stimpy, forgotten all about them.

I think the fact the she is tampering with the padlock shows she has a screw loose. Previously, it could have just been helping out, but once a lock is on it is pretty clear that further access has been denied,...and she has now breached that access. So yes, you deffo need to have a word with her. And I agree with screaming that she is trespassing.

RunawayWife · 26/04/2010 19:38

How about landmines

I'm open-mouthed in astonishment. Your neighbour's a fruit-loop! No wonder you're fed up.

I was going to suggest fencing part of your garden in, but someone recently told me that fences cost £2,000, y'know.

outnumbered2to1 · 26/04/2010 23:32

Your neighbour is loop the fucking loop (to quote shirley valentine). Tell her to "GET ORRFF MYYY LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANDDDDD"

ditavionteased · 27/04/2010 06:53

well I may have to say something today, puppy was up for a lot of last night and everytime I came down to settle her the neighbours light was on. which I feel quite bad about but if she says something it would be the perfect opportunity to mention the chickens.

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 27/04/2010 07:04

"who is by all accounts a very naughty tortoise"

This is a totally bonkers situation, Dita. I agree with the fence idea. Also the loud 'someone's been at the chickens' phone call. But really, you need to talk to this woman. Even with the access rights, she's breaking into your enclosures, feeding your animals, planting your plants in your garden and I'm fairly sure this is harassment/trespass (but ask your solicitor brother, I don't really know). It has to stop.

Fluffyone · 27/04/2010 08:24

I honestly don't see the problem. Just go and speak to her. Tell her you appreciate that she thinks she is helping, but you don't want her to come into your garden again, and she is not to interfere with your animals or plants in any circumstances. If she protests remind her of her own comments about breach of privacy.
