Dc 6,6 and 5.
Feeling a bit bad as they got given spellings, phonic work,a diary etc. Because the weather has been so lovely they've been playing outside every single day pretty much all day, playing with friends and we've been at the beach, woods etc.

I've done a bit of reading at night but that's it. 2 of mine could have done with doing a bit of writing but I haven't had the heart to drag them in as it's so lovely outside. We had such a miserable winter,we're not going away this summer other than Cornwall and lets face it this could be it.

They're outside playing secret clubhouse in the garden this very minute and the bookbags are glaring at me,they go back tomorrow but still haven't the heart to drag them in.

Errrrrm I'm an ex teacher too

Make me feel less guilty-please

So glad to have seen this thread. We had exactly the same problem over Easter hols. I did however, manage to persuade/bribe my dc into doing their homework. I was worried that it may be frowned upon by the teachers if we made no effort. To be honest, I feel a bit silly now forcing them to do it, all in all I would say there was about 3 hrs homework sent for each child. I'm not totally against homework but surely thats excessive in the hols and it makes me think that they are not covering everything in class and using homework as a way of catching up.

After reading everyones comments, I now feel armed with some good reasons and answers for the teachers as to why my dc have not done their homework in the school hols. And I intend to use these if approached after the next half term. We are going on hol and I have absolutely no intention of taking it with us!
