the MS Office ad where they say that you can browse secretly, hidding stuff from your wife... like diamond rings (if only). How will I spy keep a close protective parental eye on my teenager's online activities now. Cos you know he'll work out how to use it before me.

I thought exactly the same thing roses.

Mermaidspam · 19/04/2010 10:14

that was at the ad, not you btw!

roses12 · 19/04/2010 10:20

glad its not just me being oversensitive then.

I saw that too.Not a good thing.

SpawnChorus · 19/04/2010 11:06

Yeah...like how many non-dubious reasons would anyone have for wanting to hide their search history. I think they must have come up with the ONLY kosher scenario!

elliemental · 19/04/2010 11:09

or if you are being abused by your OH and need to hide your tracks while your formulate your escape plan/seek help??

tethersend · 19/04/2010 11:13

Porn porn porn.

Lutyens · 19/04/2010 11:23

I saw that ad and went . Diamond ring, my left buttock. What he's really hiding is porn (at best) or evidence of an affair (at worst).

Idiots

BertieBotts · 19/04/2010 11:25

This has been available for over a year though on Chrome and Firefox. It's not a new thing.

Agree though that advertising it on TV is a bit

Maybe there are parental controls somewhere to disable "stealth mode" (or "porn mode" as it's nicknamed).

TulipsInTheSunshine · 19/04/2010 11:26

lol... dp and i laughed at 'anniversary present' too.... as if

stupid idea, and really stupid to advertise it!

HellBent · 19/04/2010 11:33

Thought that was just me as well! I actually snorted and said to DP well at least we have no fear of DS accidentally clicking on your "present buying" porn

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 19/04/2010 11:35

Thought exactly the same.

StepSideways · 19/04/2010 11:36

Most of the time it will get used for dubious browsing activities, however, I think it's a good thing it is there for the aforementioned DV scenario, or other kind of abuse where a victim needing to make contact.

But YANBU to be annoyed by the advert becuase the scenario is comical and the first thing I thought of was that hiding proof of buying a diamond was clutching at straws!

roses12 · 19/04/2010 17:09

yep porn thats what i thought. will be googling "eliminate sealth search" tonight. Ooh I feel all cutting edge and CSI.

didnt think about someone in an abusive relationship finding it useful though; thats a great idea.

it's on explorer too on tools above

FakePlasticTrees · 19/04/2010 17:12

Glad it's not just me who saw that and thought porn....

FakePlasticTrees · 19/04/2010 17:13

wait - that sounded wrong - I mean the function will be used to hide porn, not that I saw the couple in the ad and started having lustful thoughts...

seeyoukay · 19/04/2010 21:20

My word you are all a suspicious lot.

If you want to control your kids online viewings use some software for that job, which windows also comes with. It stops them viewing the stuff in the first place and "private browsing" won't get around it.

If your seriously concerned about your DP/DH is having an affair and you need to look at what they do online to make youself feel more secure then you really are sad sad people and you have my pity.
