to think that "Next" shouldn't withdraw credit without warning!

I've just signed into my next account to check my lastest statement and noticed that my credit limit is zero.

I think that it is very odd that my credit limit (albeit very small) has been withdrawn without warning.

Even more odd, is that "they" have jsut sent me a Directory card to use in store.

They did this to me once and tld me it was because of something on my credit file. I asked them what it was (as I knew my file was clear) but they couldnt tell me. I stopped shopping with them online after that and if I want to order do it by phone and pay with a debit card.

I don't think you are being unreasonable to want notice of a decision like that. While any lender may be entitled to make such a decision, I feel they should at least bother to notify you.
I haven't used one of my credit cards for over a year and the lender has written to me to say that my account will be closed if I don't spend any money on the card by a set date. That sort of action seems fine... the lender is telling me in advance that my account will be closing if I don't use it.

As NEXT has now given you a zero limit, does that mean you can no longer order anything? Maybe they are hinting that you should not order from them... but go to a competitor.

Very odd that they have given you a Directory Card to use instore, as to use that I presume you would need a credit limit.

TimothyTigerTuppennyTail · 18/04/2010 23:10

Next do that when you miss a payment.

TinyPawz · 18/04/2010 23:17

never missed a payment with Next. As soon as I get the notification email, I sign in an make the payment.

Totally baffled. I order quite regularly, every 3 months or so and get DD clothes for the season, so couple of hundred pounds then pay if off and the whole cycle starts again.

Not sure what I am going to do for 'Summer' clothes now....

Can you not just ring them & find out why? May be a genuine mistake, or something you need to do to rectify the situation.

RedRedWine1980 · 19/04/2010 06:55

Im sure there are other places to shop than next

JoeyBettany · 19/04/2010 07:49

Littlewoods are very good with long interest free periods and excellent returns policy.

Clothes nit very exciting but goodish quality.

AvadaKedavra · 19/04/2010 07:52

Did it to us when we missed a payment (they said) but it wasn't actually due for another 2 days, we paid it and they restored it.

cornsilk · 19/04/2010 08:06

they did something like that to me so I cancelled my account and now shop with Boden instead. Much easier.

cornsilk · 19/04/2010 08:07

yes I have a littlewoods account -much better.I get my gym clobber from there.

boiledeggandsoldiers · 19/04/2010 08:27

Next are a PITA. I also use Boden for kids clothes.

TinyPawz · 19/04/2010 17:52

Boden too expensive iirc.

Next say that it was a credit check which they normally do everymonth . I need to see if next month my limit is restored. Althogether very odd.

Never really looked at littlewoods tbh.

I was late two months running with my payments in Jan and Feb and early with March and April and I still have no credit with Next

TinyPawz · 19/04/2010 18:26

Fair enough reducing exposure but my limit was only £300 to start with. PITA though

Oh it gets weirder!

I had order a new phone packaged which was due to be delivered tomorrow. I checked online to get an estimate time and the whole order had been cancelled!!!!!

I am getting very worried!!!!

differentnameforthis · 19/04/2010 23:13

Tiny, ring them! No point being on here speculating. We don't know why they did it!

TinyPawz · 20/04/2010 11:00

I did ring Next. They said that is was "something" on my credit report and would be assessed again in a month.

Just have to wait and see if they reinstate it.

OP posts:
Mouseface · 20/04/2010 11:20

If there is "something" on your credit file and you are having orders cancelled, you need to check your credit rating. Seriously, if this isn't just Next you need to check it out.

Try a free online one (Equifax? Experian?) or pay a few pounds for one. You can then work through it to see what's flagging up on your credit rating. It could be something you know nothing about.

Happened to me! Someone was linking me and an ExP finacially because of an old shared address and it caused all kinds of issues.

TinyPawz · 20/04/2010 11:32

I ordered my report last night after posting on here. The report looks sparkling clean but because I'm half traveller (joke) and have moved 17 times in last 10 years there are alot of addresses.

And I suppose going from Miss tinypawz to Mrs WankerExH and back again within space of year does not look good.

OP posts:
Mouseface · 20/04/2010 11:51

It could be a previous address causing this. Like with me. Just hope you get it sorted, bloody annoying!!

differentnameforthis · 20/04/2010 12:43

Odd that they won't help more or sooner....you could threaten to cancel your account.

Mouseface · 20/04/2010 12:48

differntnameforthis - Next or whoever can't tell you what it is on your credit report because quite often they don't know. It's a "flag" rather than a reason

Also, if they do know, they are not aloud to tell you in most cases but I have no idea why, I asked the same when it happened to me.

Utter b0ll0x.

differentnameforthis · 20/04/2010 22:52

Really mouse? Wow, I think I'd be cancelling my account then.
