To think people who send in birthday cards to Cbeebies for their DCs are barking?

Presumably you don't know what time they are going to show it so you have to watch Cbeebies the entire day.

Also, they don't promise to show every card so what a waste of time if you've sat in front of the telly the whole day and they don't show it.

And presumably little Alfie aged 1 hasn't got a f**king clue what birthdays are anyway and the entire event passes over his head.

I dunno, call me mean-spirited, it just seems a bit of waste of effort.

YANBU.

I made such an amazing Upsy Daisy card and sent it in for DD's 2nd Birthday - It was glittery, with pipe cleaner hair and a lift up face with DD underneath - the works. I was SO proud of it - and did they show it?? Not a sniff. I like to think it would have shown up the other cards, so was it was deemed unfair to show it

We watch Nick Jr these days.

Knownowt · 18/04/2010 20:57

I did one for my son's second birthday- it was bloody brilliant but didn't get shown

We didn't watch though- I recorded the birthday bits then watched them on my own to check- would then have watched with my son if it had been on, bloody unappreciative Cbeebies. It had all the vehicles (Brum Pat's van, Ninky Nonk etc) carry the letters of his name.

This was more tha two years ago and I still bear the grudge

ShadeofViolet · 18/04/2010 21:17

I did it for DS2's 3rd birthday last month and it was shown. It was a fab Waybuloo/Big Cook Little Cook combo card!

I was very impressed with myself. DS Didnt even notice it was him . He loves the Birthday bit though.

dustycups · 18/04/2010 21:23

always make me laugh when they say 'oh dont you look smart on your birthday'

i could imagine my 3 year old dd getting cross cos the pic wasnt taken on her birthday but on the beach on holiday!!!

def dont get the ones for 1 year olds, they are hadly gonna recongnise themselves

dixiechick1975 · 18/04/2010 22:22

DD has been on aged 2, 3 and 4 Just helped make one for niece's 2nd b day, hope it gets on.

DD has always helped me make the card and enjoyed watching it aged 3 and 4 certainly.

They list the times shown on the website - no need to watch all day - just set sky plus.

I did wonder if DD was selected because she has a visible disability but last one I just did a head shot and she still got on. (they do seem to try and show a mix of boys/girls, ethnic backgrounds etc)

(DD rarely watches cbeebies though - nick jr fan!)

I think its nice, I've thought of doing it and might give it a try but depending whether I get the time, you have to be quite organised as they need to be in early don't they is it 1 month before, or even earlier?
I agree though 1 yrs is a bit young for it they wont really get it?, but it's still sweet that someone's made the effort to do the card and send it in

EcoLady · 18/04/2010 22:59

I think it's nice!

I did one for DD's 2nd (Teletubbies) which was not shown, but the one I did for her 3rd was (Storymakers). The fact that the pic was her with the very new baby brother might have helped.

They also showed the Teletubbies one that I did for DS's 1st.

We have the clips on DVD and sometimes play them to much intrigue and laughter.

I was put off by the risk that all that hard work wouldn't show up on screen but discovered that you can use the red button to get a birthday message onscreen for your child. You have to flick through a few pages but ds was SO chuffed that there was a message for him. (No idea if it still works like that, he's going to be seven next birthday so this is probably going back three or four years.)

FluffyFrog · 18/04/2010 23:50

I might send one in for DH. He's going to be 45 soon.

wahwah · 19/04/2010 07:24

No I don't think Andy is dodgy at all, just don't think being 'pretty' should even be an issue for girls.

my mum sent a card in to Gus Hunnybun when i was little-ITV in Westcountry in 80's-if you were lucky Gus (puppet rabbit) would bunnyhop your age,it was never read out,i was very upset.

staryeyed · 19/04/2010 13:52

I have made 5 cards and had 3 shown DS2 was shown yesterday( I forgot to put the date of ds1 birthday one year -doh). I'm sure they just chose the ones that arrive the earliest. There are set times they show the cards and we just record the programme before to catch so you dont have to watch cbeebies all day either. I dont see what the big issue is if you dont want to do it dont. I enjoy making them and the dc feel special on their birthday if they see themselves on tv.

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 19/04/2010 13:57

Fluffy: dare you.

Concordia · 19/04/2010 22:30

i like watching the birthdays to deride parent's name choices as i am too chicken to do it on mumsnet
if i am doing housework DS calls me in to watch them

Bigmouthstrikesagain · 19/04/2010 22:40

I have had 3 cards for dc's on cbeebies - when I was a child I used to send pictures in to the Gallery (I loved Tony Hart) and made a card for Yvette Fielding when she broke her leg (while she was a Blue Peter presenter).

There is no harm in it and it isn't a waste of time if you enjoy making the cards - I did a fab Pingu card that I was particularly proud of, and a Postman Pat van ... all good fun - though I probably would be gutted if the card didn't make it, but the b'day sections are on twice and repeated so you don't have to watch all day.

So on this yabu

cheesefarmer · 19/04/2010 22:44

My mum did one for me when I was little, it was my little pony and i think it was shown in the broom cupboard, LOL. She taped it, and I watched it back quite a few times cos I was so chuffed to be on the tv.

aristocat · 19/04/2010 22:54

ha.....i did a double one for DS(4) and DD(2), it was spectacular and didn't get shown

this is many years ago and i still haven't got over it......
