This morning I had a general anaesthetic. Only to have grommits inserted, but a general nonetheless! Anaesthetics hit me hard, and I haven't had my head off the pillow all day. It's now 9.30pm, there is a dp, ds14 and dd11 downstairs, and I haven't been offered so much as a cuppa all day! I'm bloody starving and am now going to have to stagger downstairs and feed myself!

So long as that applies to the whole family - then

How long will it take to see if the gromits solve your problem? Did you have constant ear infections? (Sorry, I know LOADS of kids with them, but no adults!).

Once the grommits have settled in, a few days, things are better straight away. I've never met another adult with them either. I had glue ear as a child, and it never went away. Nearly got grommits aged 11 but as I passed a hearing test, they decided against at ent dept. As a child I had horiffic ear infections regularly. All my life I have suffered with ear infections and sinus problems. Sinus infections being a pretty permanent fixture most winters. My ears pop constantly like when you fly, because fluid behind eardrum has bubbles in it. Also get constant crackling gurgling noises in ears. Nobody ever gave a toss until I turned up at casualty a couple of years back, with a blocked sinus. The pain was so bad that banging my head against the wall was LESS painful! Was the referred to ent. This is my second set of grommits, and I will keep insisting on more when these fall out!

WOW - that's sounds terrible - what a shame they didn't put them in when you were a child. I never realised they could fall out?! How long were you without them this time? How long are the meant to last? I kind of assumed once you had them in they were there for life! (ignoramus aren't I!!).

Docs like to take them out after a year apparently, although they left mine in till they fell out themselves. If you are lucky, the first set enlarge the eustachean (sp?) canal enough that your problems go away. Me I'm not that lucky!
