to be annoyed that people always assume my baby is pooing?

Why do people always assume that if a baby has any expression that is not a smile that he/she is pooing? The numbers of times complete strangers (usually more elderly) say 'aah, he's filling his pants' when he's just frowning, or a bit hot or about to cry...

It drives me nuts! is it just me...

I thought it was just me who got this Anything they do is poo or wind according to some people! I like to think they are smiling or thinking.

Firawla · 16/04/2010 09:14

yanbu i find this really annoying too! i thought it was just me who hates this, glad to see some people feel the same

mrsbean78 · 16/04/2010 09:17

YANBU... but funny... 'he's working one out', 'he's doing his jobs', 'he's making mummy a little parcel', 'he's filling his nappy'. It's a wee bit off-putting to have this running commentary over lunch...

MumFromMumAndDad · 16/04/2010 09:18

YABabitU

little babies do so little, people just say anything to make conversation! It's no biggie

TakeLovingChances · 16/04/2010 17:22

Lol! This irks me also. Everytime my dad sees my 7 week old DS he is confident that DS is pooing/about to poo, when he rarely is. It is annoying, I agree.

AnathemaDevice · 16/04/2010 17:32

MIL used to do this, it's now changed to 'ooh, he's tired, isn't he?', even if he's just woken up.
No, he's not tired, he's just looking confused because all you ever do is say 'heeeellllllooooo' to him half a dozen times, then make daft noises at him rather than talking.

mistressploppy · 16/04/2010 17:36

YES! I thought it was just us! (I also think it's a bit rude, and I get embarrassed on ds's behalf , I know, daft...)

seaturtle · 16/04/2010 17:44

It's not just you! (And not just me!) When DS was an infant I had a friend who used say every time he whimpered, cried, yawned, made any sound, "Oooo- filling your nappy are you?" It was one of those irrational things that annoyed me.

I always used to get comments like that when ds was a baby! I used to get irrationally annoyed about it as well.

He was very windy and used to fart all the time too. Whenever people where holding him and felt him fart they would tell me he'd done a poo and would look at me in disgust when I didn't immediately change his nappy as they wouldn't believe me that he had only farted.

DrDoobs · 16/04/2010 18:49

What set me off yesterday was an old couple in the doctor's waiting room who I could hear saying (to themselves, not to me) 'oh isn't he cute, oh look he's filling his nappy'. I'm always flabbergasted that people make the mental leap from cute to pooing in one thought anyway!

Yes i irriationally used to get irked by this, mil will always say "Oh look, littleducks, i think he is doing something"

And go on and on getting more worked up that i wasnt going to change his nappy, which used to make me giggle as when he did need a nappy change the stink was horredndous and unmistakeable

flootshoot · 16/04/2010 19:35

Yep, used to irrationally annoy me too. My FIL always used to say it, until one day he actually saw him really poop. There's no mistaking that smell....

SoupDragon · 16/04/2010 19:40

No one ever said this to me. Clearly my babues were more attractive than yours.

SethStarkaddersMum · 16/04/2010 19:48

it is annoying but not as bad as when they sniff him and say they think they smell poo. Now that's really insulting.

AliGrylls · 16/04/2010 19:56

I can't remember this ever happening. Maybe it was because he hardly ever poohed. It is one of those strange things I love about BabyGrylls.

southeastastra · 16/04/2010 19:58

my dad used to say 'he's doing a packet' though to be honest there was not mistaking when he was. he sort of pulled a really funny gritting his teeth face.

lolapoppins · 16/04/2010 20:17

My ds used to actually go bright purple in the face, clench his fists and gurn bless him. He never has been one to take a dainty poo.
