ds will be 5 at the end of the month and he is obsessed with pirates and playmobil. last year he was obsessed with star wars, the year before it was trains. previous years I spent a fortune on toys. this year I cant afford it. we are seeing a specialist rmc cons privately which is an expense that we hadn't counted on, mners have been unbelieveably generous and donated, but it will still be expensive. so I have decided to buy ds second hand playmobil for his birthday. if he grows out of it by next year I wont be as much out of pocket and playmobil lasts forever.

but sil was horrified that we will be giving ds used pressies. AIBU?

YANBU - I often gave mine second hand things - it meant I was able to buy toys for them I wouldn't have been able to afford new.
Things like playmobil, lego etc. don't wear out with use, I'm sure your little boy will love it - playmobil is brilliant, I think our pirate ship was about the most played with toy in our house .

Of course YNBU! I get a lot of DDs toys from Ebay, charity shops and NCT sales. Good toys have lots of play in them and your son won't know the difference I bet. Just give it all a good scrub or wipe down and bob's your uncle. Hope your son has a lovely birthday

YANBU! I have passed on my eldest child's cast off toys, all like new, to my youngest before now - neither even realised, which said it all to me!

YANBU
We give DS1(9) second hand lego from fleabay for presents. He knows it's secondhand but it doesn't bother him.

Once you've unpacked it you really couldn't tell the difference.
