to find it really really irritating when people refer to their daughters as princesses

I probably am but it makes me grind my teeth manically. It is especially worse on FB - I have a few friends with baby girls who's status constantly say "My little princess burped today" "My little princess is soooooo gorgeous" etc etc. what is wrong with referring to them by name? It just seems a bit precious to me.

Ok, rant over. And breathe

My DD is rabidly republican. Call her a princess and she's probably put you up against a wall and execute you by firing squad. She takes after her father.

I like Princess Tiana from the new Princess and the Frog movie for this reason. Passive she is not.

I only have DS at the moment, but I doubt I would call my DD Princess if I did have one. I know someone who calls her 4 yr old "Little Diva" and has ever since the girl was born. So now whenever her DD is sassy or bossy (which is frequently) the mom sighs and says, "yup, that's my little diva" and it secretly delighted. BOAK.

My DD is 3.6 and hasn't got a clue what a princess is. I can't really think of a reason why she would know the word or have come across it in everyday life at her young age.... YANBU at all.

Yuck, yuck, yuck. My little princess (23 m) has despite my best attempts, become obsessed with jewellery, dresses and 'upsy daisy'. I can only get her to wear shorts by calling them 'daisy shorts'. I bloody hate it!

My mother only ever called me 'Princess' when she was extremely Pissed off at me.

My view is probably shown in my name.

I think it is fine to use terms of endearment like princess or stinkypoo but my children have their own names also.

I tend to not refer to them in my facebook updates anyway, I like to pretend I have a life apart from my children.

well, my friend has jokingly said this ... But then she, and her daughters are real princesses
