To allow my 3 year old to wear lipstick to bed..

No, seriously - this is the ONLY way she will go to sleep. She got the idea for wearing it from a perfectly innocent picturebook called "Pretty Prue" by Polly Dunbar and now refuses to go to bed until she has pillar box red on her lips.
I know I should stop, but she's sleeping through for 12 hours straight.
I'm just concerned about her first sleepover - what the hell are other parents going to think? Believe me, I'm no Jordan..

I'm adding a photo to my profile so that you can see her attempt at lippy. Today we couldn't find the harlot red, so resorted to slightly gothic plum. I don't which is worse...

I'm actually writing ideas for another picture book thanks to you lot!!

Brightongirldownunder = Polly Dunbar = Petty Prue

A great and original way of promoting your book!

Oftenlurking if only...I LOVE her work.
I'm in the same industry though and DD is giving me inspiration on a daily basis!

Does it not get on the sheets?

Shame - thought I was rubbing shoulders with the real Polly Dunbar, who I agree is a fantastic illustrator

pedrothellama · 15/04/2010 13:44

I think you are right about the colour Brighton Girl - I think she is more of a frosted pink or maybe just a touch of glitter gloss

BeautifullyScreaming · 15/04/2010 13:47

No advice to help you, but am chuckling at your 3 year old "looking like a deranged Robert Smith"

sophieandbelly · 15/04/2010 13:54

dont no y u let her try it in first place i would never let a 3 yr old try on make up! (my sister allows her 3 yr old btw)but i no it just habit etc, think u should throw the bloody thing aay and have a couple of bad nite she will get used to it, like taking away bottle dummy etc, cold turkey is the only way!!

brightongirldownunder · 15/04/2010 14:32

sophieandbelly - she found my lipstick - hence my comment about her looking like a deranged Robert Smith... I would never offer my 3 year old makeup. I hardly wear lipstick so I certainly wasn't her role model.
I think as long as she only aspires to be a chicken wearing lipstick and not a WAG I can cope.

By the way, tried cold turkey tonight and she was running around the house pretending to be a bee at 9:30pm...so out came the lippy and she went straight to bed - flame me, I'm knackered!

OP - whose books do you illustrate for?

I think yabs to let her wear make up to bed and is playing you like a fiddle.

pedrothellama · 15/04/2010 14:46

BrightonGirl - You could always try the 'Lipstick Fairy' same principle as the Tooth Fairy. I can't see the harm in her wearing lippie though, she sounds a sweetheart who wants to be a, ermm, a lipstick wearing chicken. I mean didn't we all at that age..........I mean I grew out of it.........took me a couple of decades, but hey, y'know...........

BariatricObama · 15/04/2010 14:52

what a sweetie. i don't think you have to worry about sleepovers for a long time yet.

brightongirldownunder · 15/04/2010 14:54

Fab, I'm not just a fiddle to DD i'm the whole bloody orchestra - believe me! However she's the sweetest, funniest little person and really doesn't give me much grief until bedtime. I've been illustrating childrens books for 14 years now, but think I'd like to stay incognito on here now the whole world seems to read MN.

I'll try the lipstick fairy thing tomorrow night by the way Pedro - will keep you updated.
