...to throw baby clothes away?

I ordered some drinking glasses and baby clothes online. They arrived together in a big plastic bag ; unsurprisingly the glasses had broken. The baby clothes were in separate plastic bags but partly open, and those bags also have tiny shards of glass inside them.

I've spoken to the company, who are going to replace everything. I can't think what to do with the baby clothes except throw them in the bin - I wouldn't want to put my dd in them, even after washing, and wouldn't expect anyone else to use them. But I feel bad about the waste - brand new baby clothes going straight in the bin, never been worn.

So AIBU to chuck them, and what would you do?

Not unreasonable, just safe.

Pronoia · 14/04/2010 19:25

YANBU but I would feel as you do about the waste.

SoupDragon · 14/04/2010 19:25

I'd put them in the fabric recycling.

Mooncupflowethover · 14/04/2010 19:25

I would wash them a couple of times, then take them to a local charity shop. Explain the situation to them and then if they accept them, you pass over the 'responsibility' to them.

Thanks all - Soupdragon and Mooncup, I agree those sound like good options. I just imagine someone down the line getting the clothes and thinking they're fine, and by some freak occurrence a piece of glass has stayed lodged in them... I think people who buy baby clothes from charity shops/are given them have the right to be confident that they're safe. I have a feeling I'm just being paranoid though...

Where are they from? I'll have em if you want?

Leedsmumof1 · 14/04/2010 19:32

shesdriving - I couldn't live with the day to day anxiety of ill consequences for your dcs and they're not particularly fancy so you're not missing out on much! .

no i agree, it would be awful if a tiny piece of glass had got lodged in the fibres. Some broken glass can be like powder. I;d throw them out

shesdrivingmecrazy · 14/04/2010 19:33

Ah, I wasn't going to put my DCs in them!

CuppaTeaJanice · 14/04/2010 19:35

You could use them as dusters!!

DilysPrice · 14/04/2010 19:37

Dusters, definitely. Charity shops can be a bit chaotic, and you'd never feel completely certain it was safe.

Still really really annoying though

BikeRunSki · 14/04/2010 19:38

A lot of charity shops have a "rag bag" of really manky stuff which they hand out as rags for local tradesmen, mechnanics, painters, that kind thing. They might take them for that.

But I do agree with the safety of not using them as actual baby clothes!
