to not go for my 6 week check?

its at 5:20 during melt down time tonight. I feel fine, not sure I can be doing with the stress of a rushed tea, new baby needing my boobs and I haven't expressed and DH making a mess!

YABU only if you are not planning to ring the docs and cancel it, but to not want to go is perfectly understandable!
Seems like a very uncivilised time to take out a tiny baby! Get another appointment for a more reasonable time.

Rockbird · 14/04/2010 15:24

I never had a 6 week check, no one ever mentioned one and I'm still here...

Wheelybug · 14/04/2010 15:24

I shouldn't bother ! At my last one she only talked about contraception (really the only thing). I had to ask her to check my c-sec would as it was still partly open - she did not check it as a matter of course (or even ask how it was).

NomDePlume · 14/04/2010 15:25

YANBU to phone and reschedule it.

YABU to either

a) not turn up and not let them know

b) cancel and not rebook at all

c) do both a) & b)

tryingtobemarrypoppins2 · 14/04/2010 15:31

I just know she won't really do anything! What are they designed to do?? My HV has gone through most things already.

NomDePlume I would always phone....I am the last to be seen anyway.

As long as it is just your 6 week check, and not you and the baby plus the baby immunisations.
These triple appointments are a lot of manpower and will end up in wasted appointments at this stage.
Phone and cancel if it is only your appointment otherwise make the effort and go

tryingtobemarrypoppins2 · 14/04/2010 15:40

Oh god know its only mine! I would never miss his.

i didn't have one with ds1. about two years later i had to get a copy of med notes to transfer docs, and found a copy of a report from the non-existent appointment lol.

apparently i had moved on to formula after a week as i had been unable to bf, and all sorts of other (totally made up) blah. given that ds1 refused point blank to drink out of anything except me for 10 months (and fed every 2 hours 24/7 for the entire period) i was faintly surprised to find that i had indeed imagined the whole thing.

i haven't bothered to correct any of the nonsense tbh. i'm fine, he's fine, no-one cares. it was obviously someone trying to cover up the fact that they had failed to entice me in for a chat. (government target?)

emmymama · 14/04/2010 16:42

you should go to your 6 week check, even if your rearrange it, at mine they found i had some swelling on on of my ovaries and kept an eye on it.. ( now 22 weeks pg so it obviously hasnt affected my fertility lol)

tryingtobemarrypoppins2 · 14/04/2010 19:41

madwomanintheattic that is terrible!

I have re-booked for next week in the morning when things are slightly calming in our household.....well heres hoping!!

I had my smear test at mine so it wasn't a waste of time. Added advantage was that I didn;t feel a thing due to being, ahem, so soon post partum...

lal123 · 14/04/2010 19:47

Madwoman - I would defintely complain re that!! Its not so much about GPs hitting targets, its about how they get paid, it looks like your GP might be submitting fraudulent info in order to get paid

tryingtobemarrypoppins2 · 14/04/2010 19:47

I was wondering about a smear test but was told you should wait 4 months so the results are accurate???

OP posts:
nickytwotimes · 14/04/2010 19:54

Nah, smear post partum is fine if you have stopped bleeding. No harm in waiting a few months though.

madwomanintheattic · 14/04/2010 19:57

that's interesting lal - hadn't thought of that! so they get paid per specific 6 wk checks? i had no idea how gp pay worked tbh... not something i'd ever pondered!

ds was two when we moved gp, so not really worth querying now... i do wonder what other stuff is held on file that doesn't bear any relation to reality though...

higgle · 14/04/2010 20:12

At mine GP told me I had "a lot of work" to do on my pelvic floor. I wish I hadn't gone as every time I came across him socially after that ( and I'd never come across him socially before)I wondered if he was thinking how lax my front wall was and if I'd done anything about it.

l39 · 14/04/2010 23:18

Was so relieved at mine that the dr didn't lay a finger on me! Got obligatory internal exam with older children but they've stopped that now. It was the first thing she said when I entered the room too, she must have met pale-faced older mums before!

squashimodo · 15/04/2010 00:12

I didn't have one this time. I didn't have time to go to the surgery, dragging a baby with me that wasn't putting on weight, plus the other kids. Complete waste of time imho.
