all these inspectors, clampers, and finers are not productive. They do not produce goods that can be sold. They take money out of the pockets of hardworking members of the public, a bit like MPs and their expenses.

BritFish · 14/04/2010 13:12

i cant believe people think this is unreasonable. seriously? the only thing you should be doing with your hands while driving is DRIVING.
you wouldnt smoke while carrying your child in your arms, which you generally need two hands for.....because its dangerous. as above. its BURNING STICK
people complain about smokers being banned from everywhere....bless, its as if they live in their own little smoky bubble.

claig · 14/04/2010 13:43

"the only thing you should be doing with your hands while driving is DRIVING."

so if someone picks their nose while driving, should they be fined?
should you be allowed to drink from a bottle of mineral water on a long drive?
should you be allowed to change the radio station?

Oblomov · 14/04/2010 13:55

changiong radio stationis just as dangerous, surely ?

Oblomov · 14/04/2010 13:56

no nose picking ?
oh shit, that's me scuppered then !!

claig · 14/04/2010 14:00

Oblomov we've all been doing it for years and years. You'll see it done in every Hollywood road movie. Where will the banners draw the line? The control freaks are starting to scrape the barrel.

BritFish · 14/04/2010 19:58

claig, all those things take a matter of seconds. and they're not on fie

If you are not supposed to smoke in cars then why do they come with built in lighters

odette123 · 14/04/2010 20:48

Yes you are being unreasonable. Smoking is cool and sexy and that is intensified x100000 if done while driving a nice car. Can't us poor persecuted smokers enjoy our fags in peace anywhere anymore?

SouthMum · 14/04/2010 21:22

Ban looking out of the windscreen as looking at things is also a distraction

SnotBaby · 14/04/2010 21:43

If you have a fag in one hand, you can only hold the steering wheel in a weakling pincer grip with that hand.

Therefore you are not in full control of the vehicle.

Therefore it should be an offence, and probably already comes under driving without due care as someone said above.

The same would apply to trying to hold a pencil whilst driving (difference being that you won't burn anything when you drop it in order to swerve to avoid a hazard.)

To avoid stealth, should state that I have been bereaved by car crash multiple times. It infuriates me when people see cars as a kind of portable lounge area.

giveitago · 14/04/2010 21:48

Oh I am a smoker and I completely agree!

I thought it was illegal anyhow with kids in the back - not that I can drive and smoke (never have) just like you can't drive and use a mobile.

When I smoke I smoke outside away from dcs and when I drive I just drive and that's it. Always have.

I'm sure it's illegal actually.

Meglet · 14/04/2010 21:50

I wish they would.

But they have failed miserably trying to ban mobile phones while driving. I lose count of the amount of twats on their phone charging down the motorway .

odette123 · 14/04/2010 22:00

Ban this, ban that, hey I know, why don't we ban everything and lock ourselves in little hermetically sealed boxes so we can live a nice, long risk free life. Ooooh just imagine the safety . You'll pass all these neurosis onto your kids, you know, and then they'll smoke whilst driving just to spite you.

SnotBaby · 14/04/2010 22:23

I don't mind my grown up kids smoking, their bodies are theirs, not mine, but if they put the lives of themselves and other road users in danger for something as daft as not being able to delay gratification until they can pull over then I will wipe the floor with them.

This is the whole point about traffic laws. They are not about protecting the rights of the individual to exercise their personal freedoms. They are about minimising the number of people being squashed and dying horrible violent deaths.

BritFish · 15/04/2010 02:34

snotbaby
best. comment ever.
now, who will argue with that last line?
lets see....fag vs. someone dying.
and dont say it doesnt happen, because it bloody well does.

BetsyBoop · 15/04/2010 09:14
