to be annoyed that people keep suggesting I'll be pleased to get the DCs back to school

Second week of the Easter Holidays has just started here and I'm still enjoying having them at home.

I especially like the time when it's just me and DCs. Don't get me wrong, I love family time too, but I do like having them to myself.

We haven't done anything that exciting, some gardening, cooking, cleared out some old toys, all the things you don't get round to when it's school, homework, swimming etc.

I took them for eye tests today and when the optician heard they still have another week off he said "poor mum"

I love my kids, and (most of the time) I'm glad to have them around. I certainly don't want people telling them I'll be glad to see the back of them.

It's great that you've been able to spend some time with your DCs. That's not unreasonable - just fortunate.

Crikey.

...would you like mine too??

GreatOrk · 12/04/2010 22:02

TBH our two DCs are a bit bored and both looking forward to getting back to school. They have been good though all holiday and are old enough (10 and 8) to occupy themselves a bit more.

They boldy announced they were embarrased by us today so loooking forward to teenage years.

I am loving the school holidays too, I always do. I am fortunate that I have school holidays too, although DD gets about 4 weeks more than me.

But I think the comments people make are often just them looking for points of converstaions.

My ds is at state nursery so I see him loads but it's great having him with me all day as I've been able to take him out for the whole day and we've had a great laugh.

I'm grateful and will also be happy when he goes back so he can have fun with his friends.

DramaInPyjamas · 12/04/2010 22:11

I love being able to spend time with my 2 as well during the holidays.

But it's a 3 week break.. The weather here hasn't been that good. DH has been working.. I don't drive.
We have had a few days out here and there and had loads of fun, but now both the DC, and myself, are feeling restless. They are desperate to get back to nursery and school and I still have another week of them being 'bored'.

YABU - the optician was probably thinking of her own experience in the hols

My DS was out today, and I'd planned to do quality stuff with my 8-yr-old DD. However, we ended up spending the day happily reading and eating chocolate for most of the time... in separate rooms! We had brill quality time, though - just apart in peace and quiet. A treat for both of us!

My eldest was up at 5am and sat in the car demanding to leave for school at 7.30am
She's obviously found her pregnant mother a barrel of laughs for two weeks I guess.

Jaquelinehyde · 12/04/2010 22:20

Yeah but you will be a little bit pleased wont you, really come on now

I've had a couple of remarks along those lines about ds this holiday.

Little do the people dishing out the remarks know he is home educated.

outnumbered2to1 · 12/04/2010 22:35

i am loving having my DC at home. The house is too quiet for me when they are at school and nursery. Plus since they are home i can't get to the gym (oh shame)but at least its a valid excuse..
