Bombarding me with party information through my door isn't going to make me vote for Labour/Conservative/Lib dems. I wish they would save the postage/trees and STOP!

So far today I have had 3 seperate lots of Labour info, a letter addressed to me in an envelope from Gordon Brown, yesterday I had 2 lots of Lib Dem info from the local counsellor I never hear from unless there's an election, the day before I had 2 lots of Conservative information sheets.

This is why I hate the elections! I Know who I am going to vote for, AIBU to tell them all to piss off, it's a waste of trees, a waste of stamps and a waste of my time!

Belle (I can't stop calling you fluffy but everyone else seems to have switched! ) we have had nothing at all!

Mind you our particular part of the city is among those cherry-picked from constituencies across the area to make a new Tory shoe in constituency.

I think we all know who our new MP is going to be (I'm not keen on the person or the party!) so maybe they are not bothering!

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 10/04/2010 23:27

Bob Laxton's off but I think I'm in Margret Beckett's constituency (unless they have changed it again). I might run next time! Fluffy's fine by me, I've enen put that I'm fluffy on my FB page so all the MN on there know who I am.

Did you try the cake shop?

OP posts:
Clary · 10/04/2010 23:29

Oh really la Beckett eh? I think hers is a bit odd, includes some northern parts of the city.

I am as you have guessed in the all-new North Derbyshire I think it is (groan).

No, not been to cake shop or more to point shoe shop yet as we were out all day at seaside and football trip combined

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 10/04/2010 23:32

Ohh, football and sea side, that's quite a combination!!

I hear absolutely nothing from Ms Beckett, I have no idea what the hell she does for us. The Lib Dem lady's around alot though, she's the local councellor.

OP posts:
Clary · 10/04/2010 23:34

Yeah seaside was a bit bobbins tho

(actually so was footie but I wasn't watching it as DD not so keen).

Lookie here this is MB's area in 2010:

Derby South will comprise the seven City of Derby wards of Alvaston, Arboretum, Blagreaves, Boulton, Chellaston, Normanton, and Sinfin - so not you unless I am much mistaken?

Clary · 10/04/2010 23:35

Whereas Derby North is now:

Abbey, Chaddesden, Darley, Derwent, Littleover, Mackworth, and Mickleover.

Based on 2007 local election results, Derby North vote share is currently as follows:-

Liberal Democrat 36.63% Conservative 30.15% Labour 29.97% Others 3.25%

Aha it all makes sense! You are in a marginal area!!

IWasThatEasterBunny · 10/04/2010 23:36

Safe seat... nothing in the last election...nothing now - no candidates, no representatives, no brochures....NOWT!!!

It makes you a little bit cynical.....

Clary · 10/04/2010 23:36

oooh we could have a lib dem MP!

I bet a lot of that is tactical voting tho (which is why tactical voting is wrong tho I appear to be the only person on MN to think so )

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 10/04/2010 23:39

Vote conservative clary!!

I am not north, I think I'm classed as Darley ward, I have to go to ked rd to vote.

OP posts:
Nettiespagetti · 10/04/2010 23:42

Wishes someone would come round and talk to
her about politics! I would have so much respect
for someone who took the time! Oh and I've not had any no none of those leaflets through my door as yet!

blueshoes ooer you like like your labour mans face?!?

Clary · 10/04/2010 23:43

yeah so Belle, Darley ward is deffo Derby North.

(Would be surprised if it was ever Margeret B but anyway... it is a bit of a spread out ward to be sure)

Why do I need to vote Tory ?? I certainly shan't, not never ever ever.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 10/04/2010 23:46

David Cameron's a top gent. Lib Dem's don't have a cat in hell's chance to be blunt, they still have far to go. I recon it's going to be a hung parliament, I hope it's a conservative victory though, I'll emigrate if Labour get in again.

OP posts:
Clary · 10/04/2010 23:50

Hah! I don't want a lib dem MP because I support them, I just think it'll be interesting (as in interesting news story) - there's never been anything but Labour and Tory MPs anywhere in Derbys whicle I have lived here.

Rofl @ Cameron being a top gent. I am afraid this is where you and I part company. never mind, it's been fun

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 10/04/2010 23:58

I like Cameron. We shall see how things pan out.

We get loads of Conservative literature (Labour safe seat) but in between the 'we've done this/supported this' it slates the Labour councillors which just irritates me. I feel vaguely dirty after reading them. Also, lots of moist looking young men with side partings handing out leaflets in the high street this afternoon. Picture of DC on one side and on the other some gushing rhetoric about the young woman they've put up for the seat with pictures of her winningly kissing trees or something.

longfingernails · 11/04/2010 00:41

I don't understand why people dislike negative campaigning.

If that is ALL there is, then obviously it is a turn-off. But the parties are there to keep each other in line, as well as tell you about their own policies.

It is only right and proper that they tell you about the failings of the other parties. It is part of their job.

I do dislike the personal negative campaigning - the Demon Eyes posters of Tony Blair, or the anti-semitic Michael Howard flying pig posters.

But it is perfectly fair to criticise voting records, budgets, planning decisions, expenses and council meeting attendance rates.

What do the parties stand for? Is there not enough media coverage?

Doesn't it depend on what you call a bit of information? As I have already said, a couple of bits is fine, it's never a couple of bits here though, it's minimium of 2 a day, more often then not all 3 major parties are putting info through the door once a day. Is it too much to ask for just a bit? I half filled a carried bag last time there was an election (I kid you not) Information through the door every day is too much.

OP posts:
serenity · 11/04/2010 01:21

If it was as specific as that, maybe - but it's generally just badmouthing, and to be perfectly honest most of the time I take it with a pinch of salt (no matter what party it's from) I don't trust them not to twist things to their own advantage and it seems very petty and childish at the best of times.

Give me facts, figures. Give me what you would have done differently. Don't write leaflets that make me feel like I'm refereeing between two whiny eight year olds.

BecauseImWorthIt · 11/04/2010 01:21

OK, Belle.

So tell us what the parties policies are.

If you're having all this information, then you will no doubt know exactly what they all stand for and what their policies are.

Off you go:

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 11/04/2010 01:29

Well, Local election wise here:

They are all taking responsibility for regenerating the city and improving the transport links.

They are all taking responsibility for 'improving' the schools

General elections:
Conservatives: tax relief for married couples/co habiting couples
Improvement of schools and hospitals
Income tax

You know what, they are all the same. They just tell you what they want you to hear so you vote for them. I remember the Labour manifesto that said they were not going to introduce top up fees.

I'm off to bed, it's late and ds is an early riser.

All we have had is s UKIP leaflet. Labour are non existent round here, fourth after UKIP. I have emailed a local party to offer help with leafleting or canvassing twice and been ignored.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 11/04/2010 01:33

No UKIP here.

I'd have thought Labour would be grateful for your help pearls

Night.

wastwinsetandpearls · 11/04/2010 01:37

After 15 years as a labour activist I have defected. Maybe they think I am a spy which is why they are ignoring me.

BecauseImWorthIt · 11/04/2010 01:38

That was a very brief summary for someone who was complaining you were getting too much!
