To think that a piece of gammon should be correctly labelled.

I bought a piece of pre wrapped gammon this week, put it on to cook today. On removing the saucepan lid to check on it,there was the distinct aroma of smoked gammon.
I dived in the bin to retrieve the wrapping and on the label in tiny print it said product may be smoked or non smoked.I always thought that unless it stated on the wrapper of gammon and bacon that it was smoked then it was ordinary gamon or green as it was known when I was a kid.
To give the supermarket their fair dues, they are sending me vouchers to the value of the product and passing on my comments to the suppliers and the marketing dept.
At leat the dog will eat well tomorrow.

Why are you feeding it to the dog?

Whats wrong with smoked gammon

Possibly bubbles doesn't like the taste of smoked meat? It is very different to unsmoked, and not to everyone's taste.

Personally, I'd be very peeved to have bought what I thought was unsmoked meat and find out it was smoked. As it happens I don't mind the taste, but it certainly isn't something I would look to purchase deliberately. And normally the labelling is very clear.

The two products are not the same at all - it would be like going to buy a strawberry milkshake and then finding out that it's actually chocolate, IYSWIM. As such, damned straight the supermarket are sending vouchers!

Thank you TottWriter, you understand perfectly.Smoked gammon or bacon is one of my least favourite foods. The smell that it gives off whilst it is cooking puts me off.

The supermarket offered to send the vouchers as a one off good will gesture.I,m not sure that I would have got anywhere if I had taken it back to the shop,as the customer services advisor said ,it did contain what it stated. It was my own opinion that the wording was ambiguous.

'May be smoked or non-smoked' - that's ridiculous - two entirely different tastes and you aren't supposed to know when you buy? I too hate smoked meat, and some claim that it's bad for you. I can't see how they can get away with labeling like that. Quick letter to local trading standards?(yes yes i know a bit fussy but I bet they would agree with you that such ambiguity is not on).
