to 'blow-dry' my DS's hair?

DH thinks it's ridiculous, but if I don't do it, it's looks such a mess. DP's answer is to chop it off It's quite long and wild curly, but at the back he has lovely ringlets, and the front and top is straight if blow dried, if not it stands on end and he looks like a loon.

Last night i tried to do it quicky, without a brush, but DS got irrate and picked up the brush and did it himself (not the drying, just the brushing, he's only 14mo!) DP gave me the .

Do anyone else do this, or am I mental??

I am glad to hear I'm not the only one!

I think it should be chopped off too. These mum fantasies about their toddler boys with long hair give me the heebie jeebies.

Well I use GHD's on DD's hair most days, she's 7 but I've been doing it since she was 2 years old. She gets very hot when she's asleep and her hair is always a frizzy mess when she wakes up. For me it's quicker to spend 30 seconds running the straighteners through it than wetting it to get the knots out. She has her hair cut maybe twice a year and has never had a problem with dry or broken ends but maybe we're just lucky. None of us are "high maintenance", it's just quicker and easier for us.

As for hairdryers, I've used them ever since both of my children had enough hair to use it on. I don't like the idea of putting them to bed with wet hair so have always used a hairdryer straight after their bath. It's never occurred to me that this might not be good.

I would never use straighteners on 19mo DS though, I love his shoulder length curls too much!

My ds has wild shoulder length curls.
My dp blow dries it, but it doesn't work as well as my way. I wash his hair with baby shampoo, then i put lots of conditioner on it and brush it through, rinse it off then brish it through again, leave it to dry. beautiful. Never brush it when dry.

I blow dry ds's hair too - it isnt curly anymore but its still very very very very thick and relatively long. Dh wants me to get it cut 'like all the other wee boys at his nursery' but I dont want to shave his head!!!

petisa · 10/04/2010 16:36

What's wrong with boys who are actually allowed to have hair?

BattyKoda · 10/04/2010 16:51

DS1 had curly hair until he was 2, then it got too thick and matted so it was cut shorter. They just look so cute when it's soft baby hair, boy or girl!

My son is 12... and has a head full of totally wild blond afro ringlets....(pruned at the hairdressers today but still long)

Nowt wrong with that and everyone thinks they are cool!!! His hair looked awful short..sort of nerdy lol, but long he looks a surfer dude!

I have always styled my son's hair when they wanted me to, and I still GHD my 17 yr olds when he wants to look extra gorgeous (AKA out on the pull....!

Has anyone got a DS with hair that touches their shoulders or longer? I am looking for inspiration for DS' hair. The back is much longer than the front and I always said once the front bit of his reached his ear lobes then I would get it all cut so it looks less mullett like but I just don't know what sort of style to go for.

diddl · 09/05/2010 14:12

I´m with DP-get it cut!

borderslass · 09/05/2010 15:00

my ds had long white curly [ringlets] until he was 2 and I got fed up of people referring to him as a she and I got it chopped didn't help as he had such an angelic face. I actually cried when it was cut it still goes curly now if not cut regularly enough, allowed him to grow it 3 years ago as he had real sensory issues but got fed up as it got such a mess because he wouldn't let me wash it.

feralgirl · 09/05/2010 16:29

DS (17mo) has loads of insanely curly hair which I have started blow drying because otherwise he goes to bed with it wet and that's horrid.

He thinks it's hysterical.

I suggested we get it cut but DH is (a) bald and (b) fancies himself as a bit of a surfer-dude and is therfore living vicariously through DS

StephysFamous · 09/05/2010 19:19

nappyaddict
Something a bit like this maybe?

StephysFamous · 09/05/2010 19:21

OP, have blow dried DD's hair since she was same age, her hair would be mental otherwise which makes me go mental.
Perfectly understandable to want your DS to be tidy looking.

nappyaddict · 11/05/2010 00:41

DS is only 3 so that style is a bit grown up. I don't want anything where I would have to put product in it to look decent.

MrsRhettButler · 11/05/2010 01:09

jennieflower why don't you just plait it at night so its not tangled and therefore easy to comb in the morning? ghd's everyday must be doing some damage even if you haven't noticed it yet

nappyaddict · 11/05/2010 01:25

Or in a bun.
