or is it just a load of outdated, sexist guff?

this

a facebook 'friend' (who frankly should know better) has been 'sharing'.

Am I missing something? If not, please help me by suggesting an appropriate comment to stick on it.

Okay, okay. The jury has spoken -

I've obviously had a sense-of-humour failure.

I'll shut-up now

DuelingFanjo · 08/04/2010 22:01

it's funny but IMO she's not Blonde!

legscrossed · 08/04/2010 22:10

too busy laughing at your nickname

lilolilmanchester · 08/04/2010 22:14

agree blonde in title is unnecessary, but apart from that, don't find it sexist. It is funny, but can see that you youngsters wouldn't get it!

blueshoes · 08/04/2010 22:27

lincash, I am intrigued at what teachers and social workers could possibly do with PCs that is more stupid ...

Not watching it because you can't qualify as a social worker without a computer driving license...

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2010 07:37

don't think it's offensive in the slightest - glad you have seen sense OP If you're under 40 you may never have seen a typewriter. Although I'd argue 30 as I'm 30 and I definitely saw them used / had one. Not at work though, obviously, maybe that's the distinction - people who will have worked in offices with typewriters

bellissima · 09/04/2010 08:52

Well I think it's funny - but then I am over 40. And would frequently like to do that to my computer intentionally.

Reminds me of I think a comedy some years ago with Dawn French being interviewed for a return to work after some years at home.

"Are you familiar with Word?"
"Er, which word would that be?"

ChippingIn · 09/04/2010 09:01

Well, glad you've seen the light

It was worthy of a chuckle!!

Bellissima - thanks for that too - I'd forgotten about that

upahill · 09/04/2010 09:25

Made me giggle!!

catastrojb · 09/04/2010 09:31

yeah, I got it, and chuckled (only 32). Didn't find it offensive (but I am not easily offended really).

Downdog · 09/04/2010 09:36

I laughed! She must have some great pecs!

mumdrivenmad · 09/04/2010 09:44

I had to add a note, because isn't she hitting the return the wrong way??

The title is horrendously sexist and immediately puts me on the defensive because its makes the butt of the joke the women herself.

But the joke itself is funny. If the butt of it is how technology has moved on.

pranma · 09/04/2010 13:09

Of course its funny [mildly]

Crapweasel · 09/04/2010 13:14

35, blonde and found it funny.

WebDude · 09/04/2010 21:10

Just mildly funny - because the only way one would know whether one needed to move the paper would be by looking at the paper, even when touch-typing. So to do the action automatically just seems a bit daft.

{ OK, OK, grumpy old WebDude, but equally, have never known a monitor to be so light as to have that happen easily, either! }

WebDude · 09/04/2010 21:14

"I had to add a note, because isn't she hitting the return the wrong way??"

No, it's probably because we're seeing it from in front of her...

Using the left hand would push the carriage as far right as possible, so the first character typed would be as far left as possible, ie position 1. When a line has been typed there'd be 70 to 80 characters on the line and the carriage would be sticking out to the left side, so once more would need the left hand to push the carriage to the right...

WebDude · 09/04/2010 21:19

bellissima - never saw that Dawn French sketch but (even though I hate MS Office) that got me laughing far more than the video.... indeed I'm having to correct typos as I am still chuckling and cannot type straight!

PrettyCandles · 09/04/2010 21:20

Ahh, Webdude, you're just not old enough! Manual typewriters had a bell that went "ting!" just before the end of the line, so that you could judge whether to add another word before starting a new line.

thisisyesterday · 09/04/2010 21:23

i am well under 40, in fact i'm still under 30 (just) and i "get" it

i think it's quite funny

Tortington · 09/04/2010 21:35

i just laughed my tits off thanks quim strings - love your name btw

lotster · 09/04/2010 21:43

That's funny. I'm surprised that anyone with the name Quimstrings could claim offence at something so harmless!!
