to kick ass?

I moved house just over a week ago. The removals company were hardworking if not entirely competent and could quite conceivably be headed by Tim Nice-But-Dim.

After a late start my furniture was finally delivered into my new house late in the evening so it wasn't until the next morning that I realised that the removals co had left my Dyson in the old house. It had been agreed that I would leave for my new home ahead of the removals co so I'd stuck a note on the door of each room in the old house stating what was to stay as some items of furniture belonged to my then landlord. None of these notes mentioned the words "vacuum", "cleaner" or "Dyson".

I called the removals co and was reassured that they would collect and bring my Dyson to me in the next couple of days. This didn't transpire so being in a house with new carpets, 2 DCs and 2 bloody great moulting dogs I called them again, to be told that they'd bring it to me in 2 or 3 days. But... nothing.

So on Tuesday, a week after my move, I texted the owner of the firm. I explained that my mother was due to visit on Thursday and that she was allergic to dog hair so I must get my Dyson back (it's actually worse than that, she's recently been hospitalised for a respitory condition). I was told that they would "try" to bring it on Wednesday night or Thursday (today). Guess what? Yep, no sign of them. I texted again 4 hours ago but have had no reply. Here I am, my mother having been unable to spend any time in my home earlier today, still in a dirty house, because the buggers have got my Dyson!

Tomorrow, 9 days since my move, I will go into the nearest town and buy a vacuum cleaner which is able to cope with dog hair but is not stupidly expensive. Then, when I come home, I shall write to the removals co, enclose a copy of my receipt, and tell them that I want my bloody Dyson back and that I expect them to reimburse me for the vac I've had to buy in the meantime and the cost of the transport to get it, and that if I don't get both PDQ I'll take them to court.

Argh! My DC are away with Grandma, I really didn't want to waste a day vacuum cleaner hunting FFS!

AIBU to take this approach? Or am I right to kick ass?

Do u know if the dyson is in the old house or a removal van? If it is in the house and assuming the house you left is close by I would just pop round and ask them for it.

I know you should not have to that - but it wouls quickly solve the problem.

Ha!I take it all back!

Just had a knock at the door... one removals lady with one much missed Dyson! Never thought I'd be so glad to see it!

I would kick ass too. Removal companies are not cheap and they have failed to do the job properly. 9 days is too long to wait for them to rectify a mistake and imo they should reimburse you for costs incurred.

glad it's sorted

Contact trading standards first thing in the morning and ask them what your rights are for claiming back before you purchase a new hoover. Id say you have been most accomodating giving them 9 days to deliver it to you, and their standard of service has not been acceptable, but I am not an expert.

This is why I micromanage everything!

Glad you got it (that would drive me mad!) but still YANBU to kick ass! 9 days is ridiculous! (Admittedly I have a little problem with poor customer service, so maybe I ABU....)
