Totally with you on this. I esp think it is wrong for schools to ask parents for money via the children. There is an element of expectation in these 'requests' and they know you will not send your dc into school as the only child not getting sponsored. It is emotional blackmail imo

Morloth · 08/04/2010 10:53

LOL we are usually like that. But DH was looking for some cash the other day and I asked him what for and he told me he had sponsored a kid who knocked on the door the previous week. Because (and I quote) "He was so cute and polite and I haven't seen a kid doing that since I was a kid".

My husband the big hard man.

I've been asked to do a 10k run for a charity which is very close to my heart. I'm still unsure whether or not to just donate the £35 entry fee (and stay at home with my feet up!) and a bit more and leave my friends out of it.

I've stopped asking my parents to sponsor the DCs... it got to the point where I was embarrassed. They have other GC as well and it was a constant stream of sponsorship requests. I just stick some money in an envelope myself now.

I don't know... i quite like sponsering people to do things for charity. i think i'll be one of those mums that asks the entire family to give a few bob when ds has to do a sponsered silence etc. (just thought about how beautiful a sponsered silence would be)

what i dont like is when people come to the door and ask for sponsership.. you have no idea if they'll do it or where the money goes etc.

i remember when i was in school feeling quite chuffed with myself for a) doing something for charity and b) earning the money because i'd done well. it was rather satisfying. of course other children got more money than me but it didn't really matter. one old neighbour sponsered me for 50p, nothing compared to some other people but i was soo grateful and thanked her a million times. you really get into the spirit of charity when you actually have to put in effort for it.
