in hating 'cuddles' in the morning?!

I have been with DH for many years now, and we get on brilliantly, and have a lovely relationship together. For as long as I?ve known him, he always worked nights, meaning that he would come back from work at about 6am completely shattered, and get straight into bed and fall asleep. I would wake up for work at 8am, get ready quietly and slip out to work. Things worked perfectly.

Now he has got a new job, and now works ?days?. He has to get up at 7am, which means every morning at 7am he wakes up, rolls over, and starts cuddling me. Which wakes me up. So every morning I now end up waking up at 7am instead of 8am, and I hate this. I am quite a brat about my sleep, and really not a morning person!

I?ve tried to bring it up nicely, and explaining that perhaps we could skip the ?morning cuddles? because I don?t like being woken up before I have to be, but he is very affectionate and says he has a rubbish day and doesn?t like going to work without ?morning cuddles?.

Im very tactile and affectionate the rest of the day (just not mornings) and really have started to resent him in the mornings!!

So?. Let me have it?.. AIBU?

YADNBU! Dh gets up at 5.30 for work and has finally got the message that he will NEVER see any action from me at that time of day (we are only together 21 years). BUT at the weekends, his body clock still wakes him at 5.30 and he regularly tries to get a "cuddle". It drives me crazy and no matter how many times I tell him not to do it he just carries on hoping to strike it lucky one of these days!

YANBU

Have had exactly the same conversation with DH, who gets up before me and is a "morning person" (I am NOT).

He now understands that I find any "morning cuddles" before I have naturally woken up annoying rather than lovely and I will only be grumpy at him if he wakes me up (however sweetly) before I have to get up. So he's stopped. for which I love him even more .

narmada · 09/04/2010 15:13

I don't think YABU at all.

While it's always nice to have an affectionate partner, you don't have to be pathetically grateful for any affection as some posters have suggested - this is the 21st century for god's sake!

Fart on contact! You may have to make a temporary adjustment to your diet to facilitate this.

Alternatively, assuming you're facing away from him, roll forward and then back to position so that you trap the duvet underneath you and he can't get through.

I'm mono-syllabic and very grouchy before my first coffee, DH has learned to steer clear.

damnedchilblains · 09/04/2010 15:23

Fart. Everytime he cuddles you just let out a huge ball of gas. He'll stop doing it.

YANBU by the way.

x post with bran

bran · 09/04/2010 15:25

Great minds thinking alike there damnedchilblains.

googietheegg · 09/04/2010 15:26

ROLF at fart on contact!!!!! I am picturing all the preparation required to facilitate that magical moment.

runnybottom · 09/04/2010 16:09

He wants a shag.

DP knows I would rather have my eyes poked out with a hot stick than be wakened in the morning. He gets up at 6am, get dressed in the en-suite and sneaks downstairs without waking me. He is morning person, I am night person.

starzzz · 09/04/2010 16:21

My DH is the opposite - he comes to bed about 2 hours after me (has a later morning), and does the cuddles then, waking me up (and as it takes me about an hour to drop off, its extremily annoying!)

damnedchilblains · 09/04/2010 16:47

I only just read your second post. and I'm changing my mind, I would love for my dh to "carry on cuddling me and stroking me 'lovingly' regardless" instead of dry humping me and whispering with his morning breath "the kids are still sleeping yano"

TheFallenMadonna · 09/04/2010 16:59

God no. A cup of tea, as he leaves, is what is required.

Actually, I now leave the house before anyone else stirs. But when I'm on holiday, like now (hurrah!) - a cup of tea!

bargainhuntingbetty · 09/04/2010 17:00

Damnchil, are you married to my DH???? ROFL at your post.

skidoodly · 09/04/2010 17:03

from Malificence
"I think you need to get a grip and realise just how fortunate you are to have a partner who wants to cuddle you in a morning ( and this is from someone who loves her sleep and isn't a morning person either). I relish the fact that the first thing my DH does on waking is reach for me."

worth saying again

bran · 09/04/2010 19:12

Surely that's like telling someone they should be happy to have a child who never sleeps through the night because other people want children and can't have them. It's really not terribly helpful with the problem in hand.

If we all took this attitude then nobody would be able to complain about anything ever because there might just be somebody out there who is worse off.

mrsmindcontrol · 09/04/2010 19:15

You are moaning about waking up at 7am instead of 8am???? Have my kids and spend a few months waking up at 4.45am every morning. THEN you'll have something to moan about.

damnedchilblains · 09/04/2010 19:24

"It's really not terribly helpful with the problem in hand. "

Bran it's not that big a problem such that op needs hand holding. I'm sure its pita for her but come on, there are worse things that could be happening to her (she could be married to my dh ). Besides there are enough YANBU for her to smile at.

I LOVE morning sex cuddles !! So for me YABU

narmada · 11/04/2010 21:17

Now, I am totally riven by pregancy hormones I admit, but it really rubs me up the wrong way when people imply you should be grateful for having to have your leg off/ live in a cardboard box/ eat only gruel because their lot in life is soooooo much worse in every possible way. Ignore them.

Sometimes it's the little things in life that bother you the most! firmly maintain YANBU

foureleven · 12/04/2010 00:12

I dont think you're being unreasonable.

I dont like to fall asleep cuddling. eurghh.

What I will say to everyone who said ahhh you should be greatful he wants a cuddle.. he probably is just hoping for a shag

Also, what you are lucky for is that it is his arms that invade your space rather than the great stonking erection I get poken with every day... haha I actually love it - just wanted everyone to know!

And on that note I am signing off and going to sleep

SparklyGothKat · 12/04/2010 00:26

I hate being touched when I am asleep, when DH starts it, I grab his arm and throw it back to him and said NO loudly, roll over and go back to sleep.
