ARGH! He's driving me insane, he constantly talks from the second he wakes up to the second he goes to sleep- even a stranger at my local shops commented on it, t really is that bad now!!!

I'm sure I'm not being unreasonable but he really is driving me to distraction.

Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved, other than sitting him in front of the telly with cellotape around his mouth and a stiff drink (for me obviously)I have run out of ideas.

lol, have felt like this before too no suggestions other than the stiff drink.

TheCrackFox · 07/04/2010 16:29

I have a thumping headache today caused by my non-stop talking 4yr DS.

I will be keeping a close eye on this thread for any good advice.

BuzzingNoise · 07/04/2010 16:32

YANBU. Even the TV doesn't work for my DS. He asks constant questions about what is going on.

yummycrumpet · 07/04/2010 16:38

He started his monologue about three weeks ago and there is no sign of it stopping yet, I am officially going daft

He often appears to be having several conversations with himself at once about completely unrelated things, I think his brain doesnt realise he is saying these crazy and incessant things constantly.

I have to pray for laryngitis, I think its the only way out

I feel your pain. I have a 3.6 dd who seems to be going through the same thing.

Madascheese · 07/04/2010 17:02

I feel your pain too, YANBU at all, my DS is just the same. I take him outside, somehow the noise doesn't seem so bad when we're walking.

me too! my DD doesnt stop from sunrise to sundown. she comments on everything, asks about everything and im ashamed to say i end up telling her to be quiet sometimes cos ive had enough!!

bumpybecky · 07/04/2010 17:19

YANBU to want a 4yo to shut up

YAB unrealistic to expect it to actually happen though

carocaro · 07/04/2010 17:24

Oven timer - no speking till the beeps! Set it for 10 mins then he gets sticker if he suceeds.

You got any other kids, we do, first one to speak looses, the others get a sticker.

DS1 is 7 nealry 8 and it does not get any better, he talks all the time over and over, so many questions, who invented doors?, why did the kings of scotland and england hate each other?, why do I like cheese?, what is an hour? can sheeps walk backwards? how cold is my ice cream? who decided on the names tom and jerry?

Just a selection from today.

spiggy · 07/04/2010 17:43

and me. DS never shuts up and I can't even just nod and go mmm yes because he then tells me that is the wrong answer and repeats himself til I answer him "properly"

Nursery 2 1/2 days a week gives me a break and a stiff drink helps me cope the rest of the time

Am contemplating earplugs though...

Tinuviel · 07/04/2010 18:26

DS1 is 12 and still talking!! Unless we have visitors, then he turns into an antisocial little git teenager!!

I need to have people visit more frequently!! DS2 and DD are nearly as bad! Mind you, I don't shut up much myself, so it's poor DH who can't get a word in edgeways.

yummycrumpet · 07/04/2010 18:30

Caraco youu son is a genius in the making- what great questions!

I have got an 18 month DD who is a good talker too- I think she is probably trying to learn just so she can tell him to go away and stop talking

Its not just me he talks at, even when he isnt bothering me is having debates with one of his many imaginary friends.

I do like the timer idea though, I think a visit to the shop is in order.

i think it is impossible

LittleMissHissyFit · 07/04/2010 18:38

You have no chance OP!....

DS(4) the same here.

I wouldn't even think of aiming for a silence of 2 minutes.... ha ha ha! no way on earth he'd stretch to as long as that.

5 seconds would be nice.... but so would winning the lottery... that ain't going to happen either....

staranise · 07/04/2010 18:38

"Why is pineapple made of pineapple? Why are mouses not mice? Why is the sun up there? Why do we eat chicken? Why is Spain hot? Why is a rice cake not a cake?"

Argghhhh! And this is just my three year old. Also have a very nebby five year old and an 18 month on the verge of speaking (though am doing my best to delay this by ignoring him at all times).

The only way to survive the holidays is to spend the evenings lying down in a dark room with a stiff G&T and the children's Easter eggs.

Dollytwat · 07/04/2010 18:51

I have two DS 5 and 8 who never stop talking bollocks and talk over each other most of the time.

My tip, get an ipod, you can just smile as you see their lips moving, mine rarely want a response from me anyway

Duct Tape, thats what you need.

My 4 year old is the same I just tune out in the end. We are in the Why? stage at the moment

choufleur · 07/04/2010 19:05

DS exactly the same. i wish he came with a mute button

notevenamousie · 07/04/2010 19:07

here too

I keep reminding myself, at least she can talk, I am frazzled, but I'd be more worried and even heartbroken if she couldn't. I am determined to realise that I am (we are) lucky.

waitingforbedtime · 07/04/2010 19:15

Ds (3) is the same YANBU

DS: What is that?
ME: a giraffe
DS: why?
ME: because it has a big long neck and is spotty do you see?
DS: hmm and , sighs then where do I come from?
ME: Scotland
DS:what is Scotland?
ME: a country
DS: why is it raining?
ME: ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH

I feel your pain and YANBU !
However what IS not fair is that I posted same thing a while ago and got a flaming!

JustMyTwoPenceWorth · 07/04/2010 20:05

Not at all unreasonable mine didn't talk at all until they were ds1 about 5 and ds2 about 7, but like toddlers, just the odd word here and there, and ds2 only started actually talking and not echolalia last year or so (8) and I used to sigh and cry and say I wish they talked, and fantasise about them sitting in the back of the car, chatting and asking where we were going, I used to say I wonder what their voices are like etc etc.

HAHAHAHAHA I didn't know a good thing when I had it! Now, when my ears are ringing, I look back fondly at the mute days and say to my husband "remember when they were quiet?"

And they even do "are we there yet are we there yet are we there yet", which I thought was just a joke people made about kids.
