Actually, I'm fully aware that I'm being U. There's just something about "sexy" oap Twiggy dancing in her granny jeans that makes my bile duct twitch. Also, Lisa Snowdon, very annoying.

I'm putting it down to PMT but I just turned the television off in a huff as soon as that advert came on.

I don't actually mind Dannii Minogue (anyone who can ruffle Cheryl Cole's feathers is fine by me) but who would ever believe that she'd wear anything from M&S?

They need to keep it real and get people like Lynda Bellingham and the awful Loose Women doing the ads.

Blimey! MIL really should recycle her magazines a bit more frequently .

Monty100 · 05/04/2010 23:42

Elle oh definitely for her age though. What is she in her 60's?

It probably is patronising 'cos it's all airbrushed and stuff.

Monty100 · 05/04/2010 23:44

I went into M&S today and there was a rail of that 'Twiggy' stuff just inside the door and people were grabbing at it.

That's marketing for you.

Monty100 · 05/04/2010 23:45

Doh!

I went into M&S today because it's a shortcut to the shopping mall! Meant to put that there.

ElleBing · 05/04/2010 23:47

We believe you, Monty

How are the Twiggy granny jeans working out for you?

Monty100 · 05/04/2010 23:50

Elle

I'm telling the truth. lol

Not yet, definitely not yet, am I wearing those jeans. lol

(Your card's marked rofl)

Pineberry · 05/04/2010 23:50

lol !

Monty100 · 05/04/2010 23:54

Oi! Pine and Elle

I was muttering noting the marketing success of the advertising campaign to myself as I walked in the door when they were grabbing at the 'twiggy' stuff!!

lololol

Pineberry · 06/04/2010 00:00

and double wont tell a soul Monty!

Monty100 · 06/04/2010 00:11

Pine Grrrrr

I walked straight through! I even avoided the food section. Straight to Topshop I'll have you know. lol

BitOfFun · 06/04/2010 00:22

Do you notice that Naomi Campbell is filmed on her own? Is that because she is impossible to work with? Were they frightened of missiles?

BritFish · 06/04/2010 01:19

Twiggy, she's so youthful!
yeah, she does look good, but she's too perky. and her book cover is the most airbrushing i've seen in a long time.

i liked the christmas advert where the guy who plays Gene Hunt in Life On Mars did a bit about the girl in her underwear.
or is that bad and sexualising and discriminating? oh dear!

personally, i like seeing the M&S underwear ads because it makes me think when i go to a DIFFERENT shop and buy underwear how good i look in it

RebeccaRabbit · 06/04/2010 04:22

People in their 60s are allowed to like clothes, you know, and even - gasp! horror! -appear on TV advertising them. And no, I'm nowhere near 60 but (hopefully) we all will be one day!

mangoandlime · 06/04/2010 07:53

That recent Easter ad with Caroline Quentin was just the pits. It was cheesy beyond belief and smug beyond words. Urgh.

catinthehat2 · 06/04/2010 07:58

yes, that's the one. Smuggy smuggy smug. Yuk.

purplepeony · 06/04/2010 08:20

you are all being incredibly ageist.

The ads are awful but leave Twiggs alone- for someone of 60 she looks great.

Many 35-40 year olds could take some lessons over looking after their face and figures from her.

ifancyashandy · 06/04/2010 08:27

Don't mind the telly ads coz I like the tune but the print ads (esp the one with Twiggy) are beyond dreadful! There's one with Twigs in a pinky / floral tunic top thing that I would challenge anyone to buy. It's a nasty thing from the Planet Nasty.

ElleBing · 06/04/2010 08:41

Purplepeony it's Twiggy's inclusion in these adverts merely because she is "looking great for 60" that I find patronising. I don't find her particularly endearing. She's tremendously annoying, in fact. She's there simply because she looks good for her age. Are any of the younger models there because they look great for 25/35/45?

OP posts:
ElleBing · 06/04/2010 08:48

Sorry, didn't explain myself well at all there. I just meant that presumably the younger models have been chosen because M&S believe they are "relevant" to their age groups. VV Brown who is the pretty black singer is quite popular with the youth, I understand , Dannii Minogue we know from bloody X-Factor, they chose Myleene before under some delusion that us mums like her. Twiggy is just there as some sort of patronising ambassador for the "sexy older woman". Eek. What about an attractive older woman who is still relevant? Maybe Helen Mirren (though maybe I can't imagine her parading round on telly in granny jeans) or what about Joanna Lumley?

OP posts:
ScallopBlackpuddingandpeapuree · 07/04/2010 19:56

Myleene is not gone, I was read the Mirror from Friday whilst waiting for a takeaway tonight and there she was posing for M & S foreign currency in a . Clue:- it was white

Tis Fimbow btw

ElleBing · 07/04/2010 20:14

Oh. Hmmmmmm.

Not a bikini? Was it a bikini? She does fucking everything in a sodding bikini. It must cost her a bomb in brazilian waxes.

the soundtrack makes me turn over as soon as it comes on. and that gurning awful minogue person. can cope with others

Oblomov · 07/04/2010 20:16

I don't want to see Danni minogue.
More importantly where is the beautiful/totally gorgeous naomi lenoir or whatever her name is - ex footballer wife. more importantly, where IS SHE ? she was the only decent reason for previously having to sit through awful M&S ads.

CatherineEarnshaw · 07/04/2010 20:21

agree oblomov Noemie gorgeous
Danni Minogue however 'Enough already ...damn'
