Unreasonable sports widow?

DH is a very keen cyclist and currently training for a big ride in the summer (100 mile+ over very big french mountains). We're on holiday for 3 days next week and I'd like to have 3 days where he isn't off on his bike for hours but is with me and the 3 DC for the whole 3 days. He has suggested that he cycles to the holiday cottage (2 hr drive, 5 hr cycle) and back so that he doesn't have to train whilst we are away - I can't see why he can't just not train for 3 days. After all it's not like he's going to win the damn cycle ride or anything.

Would be interested to see what others think and how they deal with being a sports widow.

Oh god, definately mountain is better than road when it comes for time away! I'm not supportive at all of DH's various sporting exploits, at the rugby club some refuse to accept I exisit (he's been a member of that club for 6 years), I refused to go see him in the last 100 mile race he did, I've gone to the finish line of one other long road race, but that was because it was taking place in a nice town and a took a friend for a day out.

bikes often come on our holidays too, but then that's only because he can't sit still for more than 5 minutes on a beach. (It's like having another child that's been sneakily eating old style blue smarties)

Still, better than being married to a slob. And at least your tubo is in the garage...

YABU his riding to destination and back seems like a decent compromise. It'll be a nice long ride for him , training is all about hours in saddle and miles under wheel. the more training miles you do the less you hurt in the event.

DH and I did a few days out last summer where I drove with DS to coastal location 50 miles from home, Dh got up early, left early and cycled, we all had lunch and dh rode home while Ds and I played on beach. This year he seems to not be doing the same event and isn't doing the long rides.
