Been a fun afternoon here in SoCal. 7.2 quake this afternoon just over the border (while I was bickering away on Mumsnet) and regular aftershocks since.

DD1 sensibly ran outside (in pyjamas) but I had to grab dd2 to physically pull her away from Club Penguin and the precariously swaying bookcase.

Our chandelier/light in the hall was swaying for ages afterwards and dh said his bath water was sloshing.

I'm still a bit adrenaline-buzzed several hours later. Just waiting for all the religious nutters to start off on God's will on Easter Sunday. My friend reckoned she felt Jesus rising from the dead

I quite enjoy earthquakes too, CSD.
I am from SD, actually, but live in Britain now, lol.
I get very excited and jump around the house like a loon whenever we get a tremor in Britain, actually.
Friends from SD who experienced the Loma Prieta earthquake closely lost the ability to enjoy them, though -- sometimes it can be too much!

Yeah, we used to live in Japan and I like a small earthquake! Small being the important word.

I saw online about an earthquake in LA this morning. We are off on hols there in a month & I was wondering how often you get quakes out there?

I'm not asking because I am worried about them, but I think it would be interesting to experience what they are like.

Hi CantSupinate! Hope you're enjoying life in Britain (and not missing the sunshine... I'm not sure I could leave it now!)

Prozac (love the name!), I've been living in SD for 18 months now. I've felt two small earthquakes and then today's spectacular. I think LA gets a few more than us though.

I think ones of this size are pretty rare (fortunately). Have a great time in LA. I recommend Santa Monica for a nice stroll and shop!

Only ever experienced one once - and that was just one of those relatively mild ones here in Britain. Was big enough to make the news, but not much damage done. I was at work and colleague and I just looked at each other in amazment across the desk.
Yes, the little ones that don't cause damage or loss of lilfe are quite 'fun'.

Yeah, I feel a bit bad about the title now. A guy in Mexicali died after his house collapsed apparently

But I do find the experience weirdly exhilarating. There's something crazy about realising the earth isn't quite as solid as we think. Like enjoying thunder storms.

I'd love to see a tornado.

I have only felt one earthquake and that was while in a car in LA, it was only a small one and we thought it was cousins driving till we got home and saw it on the news

Cousin wasnt fazed and just said "oh we get them all the time". I think we would of been more excited had we known at the time

My sister and her bf used to enjoy them quite a lot - they live in Chile. Not so much fun anymore although they and their friends were okay.
