4x4s and other similar vehicles....

I live outside central London in a nice area that I love. However, there is one thing that is starting to annoy me and that is the number of 4x4s and other similar vehicles that are huge, impractical and block the roads.

Am I being unreasonable for wanting them banned. I know this is extreme but they really do drive me mad - the roads where I live are narrow and not meant for cars (i mean trucks) this size.

Apart from the above I could argue about the amount of petrol they use, which considering the ever depleting worlds resources makes me wonder why anyone would actually choose to have one.

Bibbity - charmless - moi? Sorry, I didn't realise I had to ask your permission before buying a car......................

amberlight - good point.
when it was snowing here, the people with 4x4 were kind enough to go out to elderly and sick people as they were only ones able to get to some places.kindness in a car.

Of course they're very safe for driving children to school but are terrifying in the school car park. Especially when driven by parents who feel they and their children are invincible inside. As long as they're driven carefully, they're probably no more annoying than bikes. It's just a shame they look so horrible!

Bit extreme to ban them, but yes they are very annoying especially in London....

I always wanted one but I now drive to work in central London and I am so sick of being barged out of the way by them. When I first started this commute by car I was pg and drove a little Corsa and it was terrifying to be barged into oncoming traffic by one of these, and I am by no means a wallflower when it comes to driving, believe me. Now I'm not pg and drivea bigger car so I don't notice them so much but I would cheerfully have banned them then.

Just to clarify, my comments are aimed at city 4x4 drivers who are going between Surrey and London, not a hill inside, unless it's Notting Hill...

in sight argh!

there are some nice defenders in notting hill, a lovely turquoisey one with shiny chequerplate on him

(not that I obsessively spot them where ever I go ) anyway would probably feel a bit weird trundling around in such a clean shiny one in an urban environment unless I took him off-roading at weekends

think they are easier to park than the average car actually, those square corners mean you know exactly where you begin and end - although it could just be that I can't feel when I've knocked a bit of wall down

if we are going to ban any vehicle it should probably be the one that looks like it has a goitre, really ugly car, an absolute affront to the senses - a multipla or something I think it is called?
