We're getting married soon and are having a small family ceremony in a local museum then a big knees up with an Indian buffet afterwards.

My brother in law first complained that his gran wouldn't he able to eat it as it round be to salty and is now repetedly asking what we're dong for the children.

Aibu to expect that everyone from 1up can eat indian food. We are having 3 curries and plain and pilau rice with lots of finger type food.. Nothing my kids won't eat.

yanbu - its only because it is curry people are making a fuss. Like numerous posters have said there will always be someone who doesn't like what is on offer, whatever type of food it is. If those people have fussy eaters in their family they should bring something that they kow they will like, or like you said tell bil he can go to the chip shop himself!

moondog · 01/04/2010 19:29

Jesus, it is so bloody graceless and ill mannered to whing about what is on offer.
If it is a problem, it is their problem, not yours. They need to get a sandwich or something.

WorzselMummage · 01/04/2010 19:38

It really is rude isn't it moondog. They could gave served me a cowpat on a plate at their wedding and I'd have told them how lovely it was.

I think I'm gong to take bil a couple of dried up ham sandwiches, a few sausage rolls and some crisps and get df to give it yo him during his speech

YANBU

my dc's love curry btw. Alln kids should eat poppadoms...

thisisyesterday · 01/04/2010 19:46

just ignore it. my kids LOVE curry too

whatever you plan there's bound to be someone who won't like it... you can't cater for every single little foible, esp when it's just parent-induced fussiness!

serve what you want, and if they don't like it they can bring a packed lunch

Irish weddings are almost always a choice of rubbish cold salmon or over cooked beef. About as inspiring to eat as cold porridge, but I always make the right noises and never ask for something I'd like better! (also have a massive breakie before going and go to the shop for snacks between the church and the venue )

I think some people kinda like the attention. I know a coeliac who does not make her condition known in advance and ALWAYS makes a terrible fuss that she's not been catered for. Always ruins meals out by doing so (i.e. waiting till her food arrives to ask if it contains wheat then sends it back). The cheeky *** sent back my wedding RSVP with the dietary requirements bit left blank - knew she would do that so had already informed the venue of her requirements. Same with fussy eaters SOMETIMES!! (not always, don't flame me!), some like the whole table running round trying to find something from the bar for them that they can eat. I can't be doing with that! I don't care if you don't eat this and that, its a 4 course meal so I'm sure you wont starve

tartyhighheels · 01/04/2010 20:02

what about some hummus and veggies and stuff - i know it is mixing things up a bit but it might be easier for kids

tbh i would not cater for these fussy buggers - 2 of my children are coeliac and one diabetic but even then i would not dream of complaining and asking for an alternative - i would just ask if you minded if we bought a packed lunch

indian food is hardly even foreign these days is it?

i do think they are rude and it sounds like a lovely day - they should remember that it is your and h's day and it is a priviledge to share it with you.

DH & I love curry, but DS (3yrs) is fairly fussy about food right now (please let it be a phase!!). I wouldn't complain about the food, I would bring some small snacks along for him (just in case) but still have him try some of the food - never know, he might like it. There's always SOMETHING they'll eat.
