To leave the toilet seat up...

I mean, I know you don't like to touch it and put it down, but I don't like to touch it either, so it's the same for both of us and just one of those unwinnable arguments isn't it, and you only mention it when you are upset about something else and want to start a fight, don't you?

I just want to add that the only problem with soft-close toilet seats is that you forget that not everyone has them.

CRASH!

BelleDameSansMerci · 31/03/2010 22:03

It's bad fung shit shui to leave it up, apparently...

SheepInWolfsClothing · 31/03/2010 22:04

In Japan they have toilets that give the seat a wipe after you get up.

"Not unwinnable at all...
Lid should always be down for hygiene reasons
Lid cannot be down without seat.
Therefore seat should always be down.
I thank you "

Couldn't say it better myself. Just to add I've had enough of fishing dc's out of the toilet because they don't realise the toilet seat is up and plunge butt first into it!

Malificence · 31/03/2010 22:16

It's necessary for the lid to be down when you flush the toilet - I saw a programme once where the people had their toothbrushes on a shelf next to the loo, their toothbrushes were toxic.

SheepInWolfsClothing · 31/03/2010 22:24

Oh dear. God knows what you would think of me eating on the bog.

While your DP is out, one assumes?!

On the plus side, I bet you've got a kick-arse immune system.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 31/03/2010 22:34

You wouldn't be the first person I've known to do that, SheepinWolfsClothing - ds3 used to steal biscuits and sweets, and hide in the loo to eat them - we used to find crumbs, and sweetie wrappers stuffed behind the U-bend.

That's made me come over a bit nostalgic.

Malificence · 31/03/2010 22:42

You eat on the loo but you don't like touching the seat?

Weirdo.

Alouiseg · 31/03/2010 22:42

Get a soft close toilet seat AND ALWAYS PUT THE LID DOWN! As the loo is flushed it sends a veritable aerosol of toilet water spray into the room and coats everything.

I live in a house with 1 man and 2 boys and my dearest wish is for a bathroom of my very own that I would never share.

SalAShus · 31/03/2010 22:44

My DD (age 11) takes her Nintendo DS in to play on in the loo. Is she in danger of turning into an IT geek?

mayorquimby · 31/03/2010 22:45

fuck it, just leave it up.
I honestly didn't think women actually moaned about something this petty until I heard a mates gf go mental about it, I am however convinced that it's some bullshit argument she's picked up from a magazine or tv show which used it for comic effect and she took it seriously and now thinks it's a valid thing to argue about.
It's not. If it's up and you want it down, you put it down.
If it's down and you want it up, you put it up.
simple

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 01/04/2010 09:31

But is it actually that petty, when you take into account the fact that flushing the loo sends a fine mist of whatever is in the loo (water, urine, faeces etc) over everything within range, and that putting the lid (and as another poster has said, therefore the seat) down, stops this?

SheepInWolfsClothing · 01/04/2010 10:34

Well yes, but DP doesn't put the lid down. She just doesn't flush, which means I get up for a number two and end up with a ladypee enema. Now I'm aware some men pay good money for that sort of thing but I am not one of them.

My DH and DS don't even lift the bloody seat drives me nuts as i'm the one who has to clean it not them.

Jux · 02/04/2010 13:11

I couldn't care less whether the seat's up or down; when we got married I assumed if I had to touch the seat to put it down, dh had to touch it to put it up, and couldn't see why it was better one way or the other.

When dd was small and started using the loo, and her friends came round and used the loo, then I asked dh to put the seat down. He's done it ever since (dd's now 10), but not because anyone gets upset if he doesn't.

I don't think I'd moan if he left it up.
