To think that my neighbour who has 7 cars a trailer and a campertype van thingy shouldn't park in front of our property?

The neighbour has a driveway and parks 4 vehicles in it and in order to keep his driveway clear, he parks the other vehicles in front of our house and the neighbours on the other side of him. Yep I understand it is a public road out front and people can park where they please but seriously, what a jerk!

I live on a new build estate, our door opens right out on to the pavement, people park mounted up on the pavement more or less right outside our windows restricting pavement access for people to walk past and it invades our privacy too. I have now stuck plant pots out by our door, which stops people from parking there.

Your neighbour is taking the pi$$.

Mouseface · 30/03/2010 17:14

Drives - get it,sorry - me mad stuff like that. Just inconsiderate but as you say, public highway so what can you do?

oldenglishspangles · 30/03/2010 17:15

phone the council and see if you can complain and get him to find alternative parking for them.

DelsParadiseWife · 30/03/2010 17:18

Not neighbourly behaviour but if he pays tax on each of those cars and pays council tax then he has as much right as anyone else to park his cars there.

Can you campaign for resident parking? That should stop it. Cost you £100 per year about though.

ticktockclock · 30/03/2010 17:20

We do have resident parking. He parks the vehicles without permits on his drive or during the parking hours moves some around to the street around the corner with no parking regs.

I just find it rude and annoying that I have to park down the road when in front of his drive he has space for two vehicles but won't use it so that he can constantly shift cars around.

Is he running some sort of a business? If so you can report him for using the public highway!

AllFallDown · 30/03/2010 17:42

We've had this: it's annoying but there's nothing you can do. As long as all the vehicles are parked legally, he has the right to park them where he wants. Sounds like they are parked legally - and I can see why he wouldn't want to block his own drive. I'm afraid you don't own the street.

Tiredmumno1 · 30/03/2010 17:47

Neither do they

ticktockclock · 30/03/2010 17:47

DPW - not sure if he is running a business, may be selling the vehicles as they are always changing. Know him and his wife don't work at 'jobs' they are always home. They rent the property as well, the previous tenants were far more pleasant.

Nope I know I don't own the street, like I said I know it is a public road, just find it RUDE!

OP posts:
RedFraggle · 30/03/2010 17:48

Can you get your driveway widened?
You would have to pay the council a ridiculous sum of money for them to do the dropped kerb... but once it's done he can't park in from of your house without obstructing your access to your driveway (this is why you have to pay the council - because then it's a proper "legal" drive recognised by them) IIRC

AllFallDown · 30/03/2010 17:51

No they don't Tiredmum, but if he's paid road taxes he's entitled to park there. And ticktock ... why is it rude to park one's vehicles? As I say, I've had this, and I have sympathy, but some people have lots of vehicles and you have to find a way to deal with it. He, by your own admission, is doing nothing illegal. It just annoys you - the very definition of your problem, not his.

ticktockclock · 30/03/2010 17:53

A one bedroom flat and 7 vehicles?? Parking 4 in a drive and parking in front of others homes.

That is rude!

OP posts:
southeastastra · 30/03/2010 17:56

of course it's rude and anti social!

i'd put bananas up his exhaust

AllFallDown · 30/03/2010 17:57

No, it means he's got lots of vehicles. It's not rude. He has to park them somewhere, so he parks them legally on the street. You just don't like it. That is not the same as being rude. What's he meant to do? Ask your permission to park on the public highway?

CarGirl · 30/03/2010 17:57

Perhaps they are running a business phone the council and ask them if they permission to run one? Speak to the Landlord and tell them that their tenants are causing an issue with the neighbours. Worth a try.

southeastastra · 30/03/2010 17:58

in front of the op's house yes he should!

AllFallDown · 30/03/2010 18:00

No, it's a PUBLIC highway. It's not her PRIVATE highway. He has no duty to ask anyone's permission. If he's illegally running a business from the property, that's one thing, but there's no proof of that.

southeastastra · 30/03/2010 18:01

ha are you also guilty of taking all the parking spaces too allfalldown.

AllFallDown · 30/03/2010 18:03

Read the thread southeastastra, instead of leaping to conclusions. I've had this happen to me, but - being of sound mind - I recognised there was no reasonable grounds for complaint and got used to it.

southeastastra · 30/03/2010 18:06

well i am so very happy that you have 'got used to it' but you shouldn't expect everyone else to be able to react as you do

AllFallDown · 30/03/2010 18:08

rolls eyes at people who think world revolves around their convenience; leaves thread

DecorHate · 30/03/2010 18:10

See this is the disadvantage of having off-street parking. People stop moaning about not having anywhere to park due to commuters & shoppers and start getting twitchy if anyone dares to park perfectly legally outside their house. This is the sort of thing that would put me off living in the suburbs...

duchesse · 30/03/2010 18:10

It sounds irritating to be sure. Are they all taxed and MOTed?

puddinghead · 30/03/2010 18:14

Irritating it may be but I hope the neighbours don't react by block paving over their remaining front gardens and sticking their cars under their windows. This topic is my rant of the moment.

MrsC2010 · 30/03/2010 18:15

Very inconsiderate. Which is a social crime in my eyes if nothing else!
