My DD has got it in her head that she wants a mobile for her birthday on her birthday she will be 7. she said her friends have got one and she promises to look after it. I really dont want her to have one as she still only a kid and cant see any benefits to her having one ive tried discussing it with her but the tears come and there is no reasoning with her.
my DP said we should just get her a cheap one as she will get bored of it but least she will be happy. therefore AIBU to stick to my guns ands say no!
any advise thanks xx

DD year 6 has one but only recently and only in time for secondary school. £14 Nokia from WHSmiths, T Mobile pay as you go and she gets £5 per month but never realy uses it up. We moved away fromn her last school/friends etc so she mainly chats/texts them and my folks.

YANBU to say a huge NO to your 7 year old DD but maybe tell her why? Or when she can have one.

Stop putting words in my mouth, I wasnt saying to encourage crying to get what you want- but its her birthday. Its not like she is just demanding it randomly. I also didnt say £10 per month/week credit. Just put 10 on it then its up to her, and she uses her pocket money if she needs more.
You are all spot on, of course she doesnt need a mobile, but if its what she wants where is the harm?

With you all on this one. I personally do not agree with giving children what they want just because they tantrum, cry etc as I'm a beleiver that if you give in the next time they'll escalate the behaviour.

Imaganine when she's threatening to run away at 8 if she doesn't get a laptop with internet!!!!

I wouldn't normally agree with buying expensive pressies as a pacifyer but YANBU as your showing her there are much better things to be had if you use your imagination.

Best of luck and stick to your guns.
