to be jealous of my mums washing line?

i know, of all the things in life there are to be jealous of, i chose a washing line.

as some of you know my washing machine has been broken for sometime now. so all my washing is being done at my mums and then i'm carting back in home to hang it on the line, where it wont catch a breath of wind all day and still be wet in the evening when i take it in. whereas my mum's washing is currently dancing about her garden with such enthusiasm it is almost gloating to my sad, wet washing.

i am sooo

This has indeed brought a tear to my eye.

Tell us about these washing lines and why they are not performing in a similar manner...we may be able to suggest something

fliight · 28/03/2010 12:12

or is the weather just different where you are?

BooyhooNOTboohoooORbooyou · 28/03/2010 12:19

i must confess it is location that is the problem and nothing (bar me moving to a big open space) will cure it, but i uphold my right to be jealous.

she lives in the countryside and her garden is open at two sides facing each other so the wind just sweeps right through like a tunnel (ooh i am getting cross just thinking about it)

i live in quarry, yes a quarry. (obviously one that is no longer used and has been developed to provide substandard housing for those that cant afford better)my yard is small and only open at one side but my neighbours' house is set back a bit so overshadows mine, hence very little sunlight and wind getting in. i have put my lines up as high as i can get them, while still being able to access them but it aint much better.

As someone whose washing line is strung between two posts on my balcony and no room for a tumble dryer I feel your jealousy. I suffer from washing envy when I visit my friend, she has a utility room and a huge long washing line outside.

BooyhooNOTboohoooORbooyou · 28/03/2010 12:29

oh yes a utility room, that is on my wish list aswell but i would settle for a wind tunnel.

get this, my mum hung bedsheets and towels out exactly half an hour ago and the sheets are DRY!!!! there is no justice in this world.

we have no garden at all. it's a maisonette.

now that really sucks.

tackybag · 28/03/2010 16:22

I know what you mean and feel your pain. My mum's garden knows when to be sunny & windy for washing and when to rain for the flowers. My garden has no sense whatsoever. If i do happen to get a slight breeze and hang my washing out - the birds shit on it!
I too want a utility room with one of those hanging racks.

Read and weep.......we have drying yard with a light....so we can peg out at night.....how fancy are we? (Should I have posted this under another name?)

Neverchuckanokiaatthepm · 28/03/2010 16:27

YES BAN THE WASHING LINE

booyhoobunny · 28/03/2010 16:28

indaba- consider your audience before gloating

[looks for scissors to cut electric supply to outdoor light]

TottWriter · 28/03/2010 16:31

Can you not peg your stuff on you Mum's washing line?

Do the puppy-dog eye thing and whimper until she gives in. I'd be envious of a washing line like that too, only the one luxury we have in our house is a condenser dryer.

Tinnitus · 28/03/2010 16:33

You're right, and in protest, I'm not doing ANY washing 'till we all have adequate washing lines.

solidarity....

tackybag · 28/03/2010 16:33

indaba - does the light not attact moths? do moths shit on washing?

PuppyMonkey · 28/03/2010 16:34

I have a big long washing line, but it's been raining here today (nice now though) so my washing is all drying in my conservatory.

booyhoobunny · 28/03/2010 16:35

i have done, whilst i am machine-less but once i have mine i would have to keep running out to hers to do it. also, a couple of times she has given off that she cant get her stuff hung cause mine is out.

now there's a plan riven.

actually i think i might steal my neighbours house because she has a huge garden and has her line on the otherside (she is end of the row) so gets good drying

Indaba · 28/03/2010 16:50

Indaba leaves quietly (head hung in shame for gloating) and discretely goes to washing line to check last nights clothes for signs of moth poo..........

booyhoobunny · 28/03/2010 16:56

[hopes for moth poo]
