SAW themed ride at Thorpe park. WTF?

I am a pretty open minded person...BUT, to have a ride based on that lovely kiddy friendly film SAW, at Thorpe Park? I just think its so inappropriate to associate a torture porn horror film with a theme park aimed at children, I am amazed they got away with it. anyway....

vile

One of the SAW movies was on TV recently. I managed to watch about 7 minutes... then turned over to watch something else. Not a nice film... though I do wonder how many riders of the ride have seen the film.

End of the day, it's just a rollercoaster. The theme used for the coaster is not an important element... it's about how the ride feels, the G-forces involved, that kind of thing.

From what I remember of the ride:
The queueline is high wire fences, bit like you would imagine prison fences.
Once in the building, there is an air-gun that fires every few minutes - scares people who haven't been on the ride before... not scary after you know it's there.
There are some mannequins that have been sawed in half, limbs missing that kind of thing... bit of artificial blood.
Then you get on board the ride, so it's like other roller coasters.

It's fine for Adults and Teens. Not suitable for younger children. Have to be at least 1.4m to be allowed on.

Now SAW Alive is another matter... not been on that and I don't intend to do so - after all it's not a roller coaster.

I think I have: please see my post above.

I can't bear to watch nature documentaries showing animals being eaten, and news stories often have me in tears... but creepy horror movies are great fun because they are pretend.

flameproofsuit · 29/03/2010 13:25

Ah ok, you enjoy them because they're creepy, you think they're clever, and you find that kind of thing entertaining.

LetThereBeRock · 29/03/2010 13:26

As is her right.

MamaLazarou · 29/03/2010 13:27

Yes. I adore horror of all kinds: I enjoy being frightened by films and stories. I could watch things with ghosts and murderers in them til the cows come home.

flameproofsuit · 29/03/2010 13:27

Letthereberock - down boy, I'm only asking.

LetThereBeRock · 29/03/2010 13:27

I've watched the first two and I don't particuarly like them and wouldn't voluntarily watch any of the others,or go on the ride, because I'm a big wuss, but they were very cleverly made. I can appreciate that.

LetThereBeRock · 29/03/2010 13:28

Down girl thankyou.

MamaLazarou · 29/03/2010 13:29

The 'twist' at the end of the first film (won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it but wants to) was one of the only twists in a horror film that I didn't see coming. I think me and DH actually shrieked out loud when we saw it!

southeastastra · 29/03/2010 13:36

saw live looks hilarious (waslooking on youtube), they're only actors aren't they? also what's the difference between that and london dungeons?

LetThereBeRock · 29/03/2010 13:40

I think the maze looks much more terrifying than The Dungeons.

If that horrible puppet on the bike appeared I'd die.

flameproofsuit · 29/03/2010 13:42

Oh, the London Dungeons is educatinal doncha know

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 29/03/2010 13:45

We went to the Edinburgh Dungeons once, and the fire alarm went whilst we were half way round. The actors in each section double as the fire monitors, in case of a fire alarm, so we were all shepherded out, and ended up on Waverley Bridge in little groups supervised by the actors. It was very funny to watch people's reactions as they went past - especially when the cannibals from the Sawney Bean section started licking their lips and commenting on how tasty they looked!

SouthDevonDelight · 29/03/2010 14:53

Oh bugger - seems my draft got posted - what I really meant to say is this ..... I've seen some of the Saw films and others of that genre (watched with friends - not the movie of MY choice, but curious) and I really don't get the need to watch such violence - and of course it's "only acting" but who in their right minds is pleased to watch/enjoys this level of mindless gore and pain?

And before people come back with comments about it being a free choice etc, I totally agree and don't particularly want censorship - simply cannot understand the mindset of anyone thinking of such films asentertainment!!!

What exactly is entertaining? A film can have you on the edge of your sit with fear, anticipation, sheer terror - without the In Your Face stuff, surely?

SouthDevonDelight · 29/03/2010 14:59

edge of seat sorry.

Just wonder if those who liked the Saw films can explain the big attraction and why it's OK to transfer this to a theme park which, like it or not, will have a mixed "family" footfall and just because they can pass the age restriction, are you really sure all these kids can handle the extreme violence?

spanky2 · 29/03/2010 18:48

I teach a class of ten year olds and two of the boys were telling me all about it - even though I kept ssaying I haven't seen it because it would make me sick. They also listen to Slipknot which must have a parent advisory label on their albums. So some children would get it and enjoy it. Not my children because I want them to keep the innocence of childhood!
