to think giving a presentation to prepare in Year 4 is a bit short notice...

...Friday ready to present on Monday.

Can schools just assume that a family will not have other plans for the weekend?

why is this not appearing in Active Convos?

I guess it depends what its about.

FalafelAtYourFeet · 27/03/2010 17:09

In this situation I would suspect that my DD had in fact had more time but forgotten to tell me.

CirrhosisByTheSea · 27/03/2010 17:16

well I'd be worried about this as a piece of homework full stop. My ds is dyslexic and couldn't read a presentation, he's in year 3 not 4 but will be in year 4 in Sept and his reading will simply NOT have come along that much in a few months!!!!

It seems a bit inappropriate to me

For Ds I would have to make it really simple - perhaps a large sheet of photos or pictures to talk about VERY briefly

Perhaps you could do that, keep it absolutely simple and short, something that can be prepared in 5 mins!

but basically I agree, Fri to be ready Mon is too short notice for any homework really, imo.

chegirlWILLbeserene · 27/03/2010 17:19

Falafel I would be suspecting the exact same thing

I used to belive the poor little mite until I called his bluff once and threatened to phone the school and complain.

His face! Mwah ha ha!

emkana · 27/03/2010 17:22

No it's definitely true dd is very VERY conscientious.

It's a presentation about Hindu festivals, "preferrably on Powerpoint"

Ah, glad I'm not the only cynical mummy

FalafelAtYourFeet · 27/03/2010 17:24

ok, apologies Emkana's DD!

Powerpoint presentation shouldn't take long though. DD is year 2 and we get homework every Friday (literacy and numeracy) to hand in on Monday.

chegirlWILLbeserene · 27/03/2010 17:32

Was talking about my DS emkana. He is the least concientious human being I have regular contact with

cece · 27/03/2010 17:37

A few pics and a small amount of text onto powerpoint in half hour should be no problem. I don't suppose the teacher is expecting hours of it if she/he only gave them the weekend to do it.

emkana · 27/03/2010 17:43

No worries I wasn't offended or anything!

I would like to keep weekends homework-free really...

Do the school not normally give homework at the weekend then? As I said, we know we will be getting homework on a Friday so the rules are the homework gets done on the Friday after school, unless something else is on, in which case we negotiate another time for it. I don't mind really.
