DD's 5th birthday party tomorrow and she asked for birthday cake with picture of Zack and Cody on it (twin boys that are in Disney programme she loves to watch. I looked up internet and found nice picture which i took into store to get transferred onto cake, whereby the woman told me she couldn't do it owing to copyright laws. I was a bit at this, but asked her to double check, as it was just a picture of them at some award show (not a picture from the show)....she called the manager, who was quite rude, throwing picture back at me and saying "she's right'. Cue 1 upset daughter and 1 very angry mum!

Our Tesco's clearly states they will only use pictures which are not protected by copyright.
Those cakes are vile anyway and Zack and Cody's mugs are not going to make them anymore appealing IMO.

To be fair the best cake in tesco is the chocolate tray bake party cake - everything else is overpriced

She is right.

however buy the plain white cake that they print the pics onto and then stick the picture on by putting icing round the edge of it if it is that important.

so they won't be able to eat the picture but it will have the desired effect for the blowing out of candles and you can discretely take cake away to cut up for party bags without pic! Job done.

Agree with ivykaty that cake is yum. Why not buy a normal cake like that and stick 2 cocktail sticks in it with zack's pic attached to top of one and cody on the other, decorate it how you like. Let the artiste come out in you

Thanks to all that replied..i ended up just getting normal cake and popping picture of them on top which i removed before eating...to all those who thought i was being unreasonable, absolutely entitled to your opinion, but i'm not sure it could be described as unreasonable if i didn't know what law is concerning is about copyright and asked the woman to check - no rudeness. In addition, whilst refusal to use photo turned out to be valid (and it was more their rudeness that annoyed me), trying to explain copyright laws to a 5 year old who desperately wants a Z and C cake was an eventful process that i don't wish to repeat soon.
