to wonder if I'm getting old as I feel like asking people to stop unnecessary swearing

And no, I'm not an angel, I do on occasion use crude language when I'm shocked or really cross etc, but that doesn't make it right.

The odd "f" doesn't even bother me if I'm honest, but I'm seeing more and more (on here, but that's perhaps because this is the only forum I live on visit) people calling others "c's" and this and that - for no reason whatsoever.

You don't really hear people talking like that in normal rl conversations, so could this be a way of channeling anger whilst being An Example in public? That I could almost live with.

Does this bother anyone else or should I just accept I'm turning into my mother??

YANBU to dislike it, I don't like it either, but it's allowed her so i just try to turn a blind eye.
It doesn't make me feel any compassion or agreement with the poster of these things though.

elvislives · 27/03/2010 12:12

Sadly I think you do hear it more in RL. We were on holiday recently and the people in the next apartment were having a very loud conversation where every other word was f**ing. I have a 3 yo who repeats everything like a tape recorder. I don't want to hear it.

MitchyInge · 27/03/2010 12:12

it doesn't bother me at all here, in print or on tv and in films - sometimes I feel a bit squeamish if am within earshot of people swearing when my youngest child is with me, but I really don't know why as she will definitely hear it all at school and in any case swearing is such a useful anger management tool, you can't really learn too soon when it is and isn't appropriate to use it

MisSalLaneous · 27/03/2010 12:23

Strangely enough I don't even notice the f-word in movies anymore. I think you get desensitised because you hear it so often on there.

Because most of my friends have young children, no-one swears in normal conversations on purpose. (I'm very conveniently ignoring the fact that I said "shit" in front of ds, 2 years old, when I dropped the jam bottle covering the kitchen in glass and sticky red strawberries yesterday...)

elvis, I agree with you there. I don't really want ds to hear swearing all the time, it's unnecessary. That and the fact that I'm still working on "donkey", so first words first...

Five, I do the same. If someone posts an OP with all the swear words they could possible think of covered in the first sentence, I just think that they couldn't possible be all smiley and chatty and as innocent as they pretend. Of course they might have been, but it does make me wonder.

YANBU. I very rarely swear and don't really like it to be honest. I do appreciate that there are instances where using a swearword is the only way to get the message across though!

charmander · 27/03/2010 19:35

Whatever you do don't move to New Zealand. We just have, and it is great, but the language is quite an eye opener. Bloody, bugger, and crap are used in (primary) school by staff and children without anyone batting an eyelid.

bernadetteoflourdes · 27/03/2010 19:45

That C.. word thread that is on AIBU NOW was started by a man,I clicked on his profile and found his photo I recognised him instantly and am going to out him to his employer, he thinks make up is a disguise! One of the other poster recognised him too. He is so banged to rights his language takes the

MisSalLaneous · 27/03/2010 19:46

No, that thread just confused me (and half of MN, it seems). I'm clearly not on here enough. Should mention that to dh.

charmander, I don't get why people would do that. If there is no reason on this earth to add anything.

Seen earlier (I'm changing details a little, as this is just a general moan, not about a specific thread):

AIBU for feeling upset that dh ate all my mini eggs...

Answer (in the lines of): F yes, the c.

I mean, really.

And bernadette, sorry if you're just messing around, but otherwise - it's unnecessary to call me "the bad language police" and reference to here on that thread. My OP is clearly not about that.

What on this earth is "Tuppence" when not money?? "Baby dancing" is awful too.

YANBU

MisSalLaneous · 27/03/2010 20:10

Urgh. Yes, I should really think before asking. I am now wondering what on earth the connection is, but assume it's probably better not to ask, right? I'm most definitely not going to google.

Its a joke MisSal I don't want to cause trouble for you so sorry. Its the op on the cunt cube thread I recognise him he seriously dissed me in RL once so I want his boss to see his threads. BTW there is a really amusing link ON THE SAME THREAD on cunt kievs that someone has posted I have never laughed so much, check it out

MisSalLaneous · 27/03/2010 20:17

Ah cool, sorry for being a bit over sensitive whilst happily moaning about others...
