then why should I??

He is 11 yo and I am currently busy on my laptop (weel aside from mnetting) paying bills and doing finance type things....he shouts in about 20mins ago "mum can i have toast"...to which i respond, "only if you make it yourself".....no response

So........do i make it or do i send him to bed hungry when he remembers that he hasnt made it himself and it becomes too late to have any.....tough love, doncha just love it

Leave him. He is 11 and fully mobile, one assumes.

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 25/03/2010 20:59

Let him make his own toast. He is old enough too.

mamsnet · 25/03/2010 20:59

DO NOT make it..

It is your responsiblity as a woman and as his mother to teach him to fend for himself..

He's 11, not 11 months..

stoppinattwo · 25/03/2010 21:00

Brahms...fully mobile, just not fully clued up

Love it, I do. I probably would have answered "Yes" and let him figure it out. Then later when its too late you can say, "Well, I told you, you could have some. Why didn't you?"

ljgibbs · 25/03/2010 21:01

Right in there with you stopinattwo. My DS is the same age and just tonight wanted me to make him toast, whilst he just sat and watched the telly. Needless to say I refused.

stoppinattwo · 25/03/2010 21:02

you know...this is why i love mn....when a aibu actually goes my way....im going to make him read this the lazy little toe rag ...there are mnetters who think he is wonderful, maybe I shall send him round to them

He has reached the age when he has to make a serious decision!

Get up and work that toaster or....

STARVE!

EmilyStrange · 25/03/2010 21:09

Well done you. In years to come his girlfriends will thank you too. I am far more unreasonable as I employ the same tactics with my 5-yr-old ds but I hasten to add with snacks of the cold variety such as apples and bananas.

stoppinattwo · 25/03/2010 21:11

Orm....there is a third option which is probably DS's most likely course of action...

Sulk, now attempt to make toast (not happening too late)...more sulking, then closely followed by some muttering under his breath (if its wirth saying please say it so i can hear!!!).....and then closely followed by my foot up is backside on his way up to bed
