Who have spent the last 6+ months nagging me to potty train DS2 and me replying he will do it when he is ready.

Have been nagged, told I am lazy, he will be starting school soon and yu need to get him sorted before then blah blah blah!!!

Well I did leave him to do it when he was ready and for the last week as long as we are indoors and he is naked he will wee in the toilet.

I am so proud of him lol

He won't wear pants though, I bought him some last week and he keeps crying
"no my pants my nappies pants daddys and DS1's"

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/03/2010 09:23

Kay thats exactly what I am doing. But because DS1 was dry by 15m day and 17m night they expected me to do the same with DS2

DS saw a friend weeing on the potty yesterday and said "L a big girl, wee on the potty"
I said "Would you like to be a big boy and wee on the toilet too?"
"no"
ah

BessieBoots · 25/03/2010 09:24

YANBU. Just ignore them. I waited until DS1 was just 3, and it took about 3 days- my friends who started theirs too early had a lot more work with it.

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/03/2010 09:28

mind you i think it is a game atm as he has managed to do 3 wees in the space of 8 minutes lol

YANBU. The peeing in the potty novelty will soon wear off. My dd refused to use a potty and would only go on the toilet. The worst time was hearing her scream and finding her with golden showers in her slippers. She'd tried to do it like daddy.

Pancakeflipper · 25/03/2010 09:42

I left my ES until he was ready. It was just past his third birthday. Took 1 day at home and the second day we were out and he was running to get his potty when he needed a wee and we had very few accidents.

Did take him longer to do dry nights but he's cracked it..

It was very stress free and I am glad I left it to him

Kreecher he won't use a potty either, he won't use a step to reach toilet he just stand on tiptoes.

he is so proud of himself everytime he goes to the toilet he exclaims "Me a good boy" lol

Won't poo on the toilet though he waits until he ha a nappy on.

AS he is happy using the toilet to wee, I am happy for him doing it in his own time. It is family and friends who think i should be working more at getting him trained.

But that feeling when you buy your last bag of nappies. priceless.
Some children are ready earlier than others. According to my mum, I was outof nappies by the time I was 10 months old. What she fails to mention is I virtually had the pot welded to my bottom for the next 6 months.

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/03/2010 09:50

lol kreecher I am sad about him coming out of nappies it means I won't be getting anymore fluffy post....

probonbon · 25/03/2010 11:53

at not potty training until over three

heavens to betsy I must be old

NinthWave · 25/03/2010 11:59

My DS is 2.7 and won't have any of it either...he will get his pants out of the drawer and play with them/line them up/put them on his head but cries and cries if I try to get him to wear them.

I've tried the bare bum approach, but he just cries for a nappy when he needs to wee. He will happily sit on the toilet trainer seat for a few minutes at bathtime but seems too scared to actually do anything. Then he'll get down and wee on the bath mat!

Even chocolate button bribery is not working...I'm happy to leave him a bit longer, but ILs seem surprised that he isn't trained yet.

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/03/2010 14:23

DS2 won't sit on the toilet, he stands up to wee.

pooing must be done only when mummy gets a nice clean fluffy nappy on him

I was lucky, ds1 was showing signs of wanting to be trained at 2 which meant it was summer, the weather was warm and fewer clothes were needed. Having a rather "filing cabinet" sort of mind, I knew that once ds1 had worked out that wees went into the pot or loo, he'd be trained. So after a couple of interesting accidents which his wellingtons took the brunt of, after a week, he had it cracked. A week later he was dry at night too. But poos were rather more of a problem and he seemed (literally) anal about giving them up!

I stopped listening to stupid comments not long after ds1 was born. If I'd followed my MIL's instructions the poor child would have frozen to death being put out in the snow for naps and have had a potty shoved under his newborn bottom.

Feelingsensitive · 25/03/2010 14:49

I thought you were going to say he was 4! 2 is fine IMO. My DS is 2 and showing no interest so I will leave until summer comes.

Pikelit · 25/03/2010 14:50

I can't understand why anyone would think two is late to train either. I'd have said it was about as early as you can expect the training to catch on properly!

OrmRenewed · 25/03/2010 14:51

No you aren't. But i suggest not literally doing that for the sake of amicable ongoing relations.

But you are right. So much more sensible. I did that with my second 2 for the simple reason that I didn't with my first and it was a nightmare.
