No idea but I would be concerned. Phone nhs direct?

PeedOffWithNits · 22/03/2010 14:24

was she overweight/large build 2 years ago, has grown taller but thinned out? has she had any blood tests? is she otherwise very well? have her feet been growing well?

no though, does not sound right ( have similar concerns about DD who is 10 not putting on weight for a year, but getting lot taller) this is due to an longterm health issue though - shortness and feet not growing were indicators in getting her diagnosed!!

My dd1 was the same. Stayed at about 2 stone for about 18 months but I never got her checked out or anything. She finally put a little weight on in October just gone, but I think that was also to do with the fact that she had a growth spurt.

DD2 is 18 months and appears to have put on about 2 lb since last August - probably more to do with the fact that they burn it all off running round.

PeedOffWithNits · 22/03/2010 14:28

OP - not wishing to alarm but if she is "failing to thrive" and has NOT been screened for coeliac (see-lee-ak) disease, ask about this - or google to see if she has others of the many other symptoms (eg lethargy, anaemia, wind, diarrhoea, vomitting, pale skin) coeliac Uk have a great site

especailly if any family history of anaemia, bowel cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes (all linked to undiagnosed coeliac disease)

UpYourViva · 22/03/2010 14:29

Yes she sees a dietician, has had blood tests which all came back fine.

She was quite a big baby untill she reached around 10m, she has grown in height but no weight gain.

They have been tracking her weight every 6ms and she is not classed as underweight it's just the lack of weight gain that concerns me, just doesnt seem right

POWN, there is a history of bowel cancer on her paternal side, i requested the previous blood tests as i was convinced she had a hormone growth deficiency but the tests came back all clear, ill google that, thankyou

have they lookeed at a grwoth hormone issue? my DD was investigated aged 5 being very short for her age, growing extremely slowly, feet did not grow at all for a year

with her it was coeliac disease, but the HVs first guess had been growth hormone defficiency.

If she is otherwise well and energetic etc, and they have ruled out lots of possibilities, then prob just very high metabolic rate/burning off all the calories she eats

UpYourViva · 22/03/2010 14:35

well i had to practically force the pediatrician to do the tests for the GHD as he didnt feel it necessary, dd is very small for her age too, she has size 8 feet, so they have grown 1 size in a year.

Thing is, i dont want to seem like one of those mums that pushes for answers to a problem that isnt really there, but it;s really concerning me atm

if your gut feeling is there is something not right, could you get a sympatheitc GP to listen, or ask for a second opinion?

PeedOffWithNits · 22/03/2010 14:39

did they do the calculation based on parental height to show what growth curve she should be on? where is she? DD was on 0.4th centile!

UpYourViva · 22/03/2010 14:43

Well im around 5ft2 so i expected her to be short, her paternal father isnt around anymore but he wasnt blessed with great height. Im not sure what centile she's on ill have to check, im not totally sure what they're basing it on tbh, thats the thing, the pediatrician hasnt actually explained to me what the causes of her height and weight could be related to
