This man first rang (my mobile) on Friday and asked for a man by name. I said they have the wrong number, and he read the number out to me. I said yes that is this number but it doesn't belong to that man.

Two minutes later he rings again and says he thinks he got the names mixed up and asks for another man. I said again that the phone belonged to me and not named man and i'd never heard of either person.

Nothing then, until today when it rings again and he asks for the same man as in the first call. I said 'no you still have the wrong number', he apologised and hung up, but then rang again asking for the same person. I said 'I just told you, you have the wrong number' and hung up.

AIBU to think that if you ring a number and it is wrong, you don't carry on ringing it ?

I have had an old woman calling asking for a John for the best part of seven years... now thinking of that... I hope she is ok, she has not rang in several months...

I have a very posh elderly lady who has called my house every week for the past 2 years looking for Dennis.

I always feel really sad when I have to tell her she has the wrong number - hope its not her son or someone close.

In my previous job, our office number was very similar to a womens health clinic, who deal with rape victims, prostitutes, etc.

Sometimes we would answer the phone and
these poor distressed girls, who had obviously had to pluck up the courage to phone for help would immediately launch into a speel before we had a chance to interrupt and tell them they had the wrong number.

Once a girl phoned who was in labour and had lost her midwifes number. She was panicking so much she couldnt take down the right number I was giving her and kept calling back. I ended up having to take her name and number and getting the clinic to call her
