To think that for some people school fees ARE a necessity

...unless they get sponsorship or scholarships. For instance (there are many more, of course) Uganda.

Something for those of us fortunate enough that we could afford school fees but can get what we need for our DCs from the state to consider, maybe?

[hoping for some evidence that someone had bothered to look at this...there's worse things to do of a Friday evening]

Sorry, Grimma, I know I looked and thought it was a good point, as I bet lots of us have. When people agree they post less!

Portofino · 19/03/2010 21:10

It would probably help if this post wasn't so vague.....

JaneS · 19/03/2010 21:12

It's not vague, it's just brief.

ToccataAndFudge · 19/03/2010 21:12

but we're not in Uganda - haven't read the thread that this is obviously about - but i'm presuming that they're talking about here in the UK??

OF course in MANY countries in the world school fees are a nessisity.

GrimmaTheNome · 19/03/2010 21:13

Too vague? Oh well then... Oi! Affluent parents! If your kid got into a good state school then use a bit of the dosh you've saved to help some kid in a developing country who doesn't get a secondary education unless someone pays.

Better ?

Other than parodying the title, its not much related to that other thread. Its something thats on my mind at the moment as we've just been through LEA placements etc.

Oi why don't you sell your house and give the difference to a poor African so they COULD buy a house, cos we all know they can't afford one...

or lets sell all our posessions give the money to the poor and buy a whip to flagelate ourselves with until we realise how godam lucky we are....

This thread is a wind up? please say yes?

ToccataAndFudge · 19/03/2010 21:18

ermmmm no not really.

Don't have to be that affluent to sponsor a child through school (I'm about to start doing it again and I'm on benefits)

seeker · 19/03/2010 21:19

Thank you for that. I am going to print it off and take it in to school on Monday. It made me stop and think - particularly as we made exactly £120 with out PTFA cake stall today!

GrimmaTheNome · 19/03/2010 21:25

No lil. This was aimed purely at anyone who knows already how lucky they are.

Grimma bet you'd love this website and I'm dying to reccommend it to someone www.givingwhatwecan.org/resources/recommended-charities.php

Tells you quite simply the best charities in the world to donate to, to reduce desperate poverty and yield the most lasting good for your donation - even very small donations.

because some of them are thousands of times more effective than others.

GrimmaTheNome · 19/03/2010 22:49

Thanks jetplane - I'll take a look at that.
