To have grown quite attached to the spider that lives in our bathroom

And probably also a bit strange I realise. It's been there for months, occasionally disappears for a week or two but always comes back. I sort of miss it when it's gone . I know it's the same spider all the time because it's only got 7 legs. I think it's a called a cellar spider. I've seen it catch a spider about 3 times bigger than it. Jeez, I would never tell anyone in RL I am quite fond of a spider.

This has got to be one of the most horrendous threads I have ever read. I am scared to move or look around in case I am being observed by a 'regular'.

ha fox!

i had a pet spider in my coat cupboard. it was one of those with really thin long legs. it had babies and half of them survived - i watched them grow bigger each day. then one day they all went

I like spiders. My Mum told me they were good luck.

We had huge huntsmen that would be on the walls all over the house. They were not aggressive and used to keep the flies down.

Not so keen on redbacks however, will need to DS to check his shoes every morning when we move home.

YANBU - DH and I grew quite attached to a spider who lived in our bedroom. She made a little nest thing at the same time I was pregnant so I felt a certain affinity with her

Only problem was, once the eggs had hatched we were left with a rather large spider family living all over the bedroom which didn't quite have the same charm as one motherly spider.

And I think her babies must have eaten her

Well, i am quite concerned, my spider has disappeared on one of its sojourns again. Not been seen since I started this thread. Right, who is the culprit . Maybe he got a bit paranoid and has retired up to the loft. I think that's where he goes when he wants a bit of peace. Seriously, my spider is a feisty little bugger, it caught a house spider once, which is huge!

Sorry to people with spider phobias, maybe I shouldn't have had 'spider' in the title - is it 'loofah' or something we're supposed to say on MN?

We had one in our lounge when I was a teenager. It was called Charlie & was there for years. He used to move closer & further away from the fire according to how warm the room got. He also used to disappear & reappear every few months.

In retrospect it was either a very old spider (still there now & I'm the other side of 30)or we've actually had a succession of Charlies.

My spider is definately a she, this is the second time she's laid a little package of eggs in our bathroom window sill. We all take great care not to disturb it.

I once had a spider living behind the glass on my wing mirror that would say hi to me every morning as I drove to work (whilst hanging on of course... or perhaps he was saying something less friendly??) he was there for about 6 months. This one was definately a boy spider as a female would not have picked such a ridiculous place to live... or been so stubborn to admit she had perhaps made a mistake in chosing such a location.

We had one in the garage for a while when I was growing up, called Greg. Even my dad would cheerfully say "morning Greg" when he went in there.

YANBU

I have had lots of pet spiders. There are lots of different species of spiders which pop up in my flat from time to time.

I wonder what happens when they meet each other. Do they have spider wars? Do they eat eat other, or just ignore each other?

Joolyjoolyjoo · 25/03/2010 23:29

YANBU! I'm not very fond of spiders- I wouldn't like them too close (definitely not on me!) But I have had a few little spider-tenants in the bathroom. I am fine with them as long as they stay where I can see them and say hello, and don't scurry about, and I do name them I just like to keep tabs on them.

But spiders are not permitted in the bedroom! Oh no! They could break the rules while I was asleep and unable to watch them, so they must be evicted!

I once caught a giant one in the living room (it was monstrous, and broke the no-scurrying rule) I threw it out (actually, I say that nonchalantly: the truth is it took me over an hour to pluck up the courage to catch it and lift it!) I found it trying to get in the blummin catflap the next morning!
