Is this acceptable or not?

I work prt time 3.30-7.30.

DH will be home from work at 3pm so he take over care of dd, then I get ready and walk to work.

Last night, whist I was walking home from work I was in tears. Quite embarrsing but I think I was hormonal and exhausted and just couldn't face the walk home. It's not far but no buses are due at that time so no choice but to just get on with it. Lucky I was by myself so no one saw!

Feel even worse today, cannot even bring myself to get off the sofa. Is it taking the piss to phone in and say I am exhausted.

Thing is it is quite a male dominated place so I don't think they would understand.

What is your opinion?

With DS1 I wokred full time and phoned in sick about 4 wednesdays in a row because I was so exhausted I just could not get out of bed.

I would ssay you are not feeling well. I don't think saying you are tired is a good idea.

iggypiggy · 19/03/2010 11:58

I would say phone in sick.

When I told my HR team that I was pregnant they asked me how I had been feeling and I said some days had been v. hard when I was feeling sick/ exhausted - but mostly ok.

And they were very clear that I should have taken the days off and told HR confidentially of the reason.

RockbirdisdrinkingGuinness · 19/03/2010 12:04

I would phone in sick. I remember driving to work some days sobbing because I was so tired. I was in no state for work by the time I got there and my productivity was zero. So my work was rubbish and I felt like crap all because I didn't like to speak up. Nobody gained.

I agree with the other comments.
With ds1 I had one really bad day when I was about 9wks pregnant and I called in sick and explained that I felt really awful. No-one had a problem with that and think they would prefer that to you going in and being useless and moping about all day when everyone else is trying to get on with stuff!

iggypiggy · 19/03/2010 12:11

display I was going to say that too! On the couple of days I felt terrible I was totally useless and may as well have stayed at home for all the work I got done!

YANBU, the first trimester is the time when your body is changing the most. I'd listen to your body and have a nice rest.

These first few months are awful. We have been away this week and on Weds I just couldn't get out of bed and stayed in it dozing and reading till 4pm. Honestly, under normal circs if you felt as sick as you probably do and a knackered you would take time off.

I'm dreading going back to work next week. I am 13 weeks and while the sickness is kind of wearing off, my extreme tiredness is making it worse, and now due to pregnancy insomnia I have had a cracking headache for 2 days. Week before last I cycled into work and nearly vomited the whole way and sat in the loos and cried when I got into work.

Take care of yourself and don't worry, you're not the only one

rollerbaby · 19/03/2010 21:22

I called in sick today so there you go...

rollerbaby · 19/03/2010 21:22
