think its salt?

AnyFucker · 18/03/2010 23:09

kill your mother

that is soooooo out of order

NormalityBites · 18/03/2010 23:10

Put white wine on it.

Seabright · 18/03/2010 23:10

Are you anywhere near a Lakeland shop? If so, get down there tomorrow and get some of their "Wine Away".

I am fairly sure salt doesn't work - it's used when you're dying material to set the dye (stain), it might do the same here.

cornsilk · 18/03/2010 23:10

what a waste

Buzzybb · 18/03/2010 23:10

Thks someone on hseheeping said same off to pour the tub on both couch and floor
Will give Mother DD sippy cup in future

If you have any white wine, try cleaning it with that. You need to be quick though.

Buzzybb · 18/03/2010 23:16

gibberish she drank white wine and moved to red and yes cornsilk that was my first thought [as was v nice wine ]until I saw it spread across the couch to the floor

I have read that the white wine on red thing doesn't work...

For the carpet you need to flush/blot/flush/blot I believe, with cold water/clean towel

no idea about the leather

venusonarockbun · 18/03/2010 23:29

Ponders - yes white on red dosent work - seems its an old wives tale. If it did work then it should be possible to spill a glass containing half red/half white on a cream carpet and leave no mark watsoever. Impossible.

gibbberish · 18/03/2010 23:31

Well that's me told then!

Just as well, because if you've already chucked a bottle of red over your couch, you will need the bottle of white to help you cope with the stress!

KurriKurri · 18/03/2010 23:35

Can your mother just sit on the stain for ever so it doesn't show?

RedbinDippers · 18/03/2010 23:39

Sulphuric acid is quite effective.

Buzzybb · 18/03/2010 23:40

KK dont think she wants to be here when I tell DP
On a better note have hoovered off the salt and am now blotting it with hot water and DD [clean] nappy and it seems to be lifting out of the carpet at least

White on red does indeed work. I did this in October when my witch friend visited. No stain! I was truly amazed. Felt bad doing it though as I rarely have wine

MrsTicklemouse · 18/03/2010 23:44

fizzy water

solo · 18/03/2010 23:44

Definitely not an old wives tale!!!

chaostrulyreigns · 18/03/2010 23:45

Insurance Claim. Simples.

kludge · 19/03/2010 01:39

Baby wipes. I couldn't believe it when I tried it, but found they lifted even old, dried-in red wine stains from our light coloured carpet, where fizzy water and vanish carpet foam both failed.

Aviendha · 20/03/2010 13:58

salt for the carpet, dont mop or rub it in, just tip a bucket of salt on and hoover it up.

IMoveTheStars · 20/03/2010 14:02

White wine does work, actually.

I have to say insurance claim too - assuming you have accidental damage covered. You'll get a shiny new sofa and carpet (assuming nothing else actually gets it out)

Cadelaide · 20/03/2010 14:10

Noooooo!

Not salt.

I tried that here and it "set" the stain into the carpet.

MeMudmagnet · 20/03/2010 16:24

Maybe it depends on the type of carpet.
I've used salt on our wool carpet and it drew out the wine. You then have to carefully sweep it away with a dust pan and brush, don't rub it. Then put more on till the salt stops turning red.
If you just put it on and leave it to dry it won't work.
Not sure about the leather though.

amber1979 · 20/03/2010 16:28

It's your own daft fault for getting a cream sofa and a white carpet. Meh.

Claim on the insurance and get something sensible to replace them.

sayithowitis · 20/03/2010 16:31

Oz make a power cleaner that does the trick. I used it after trying everything else and was amazed when my carpet came up like new, especially as it was about a week after the spill, so it was well and truly dried in.
