both me and my df has agreed after months of conversation that he would have the snip.

i know deep down i don't want any more children and neither does my partner.

we have a gp appoinment for friday to descuss this, but i am not sure if df could go through with it as he is very squrmish and even when i have been in labour almost fainted both times.

i would prefer it for me to have it done as i know 100% i could go through with it.

iam 24 and my oh is 31, do you think i would be able to have it done on the nhs

My DP had it done 2 weeks ago, he was in and out in an hour and was a bit uncomfortable for a few days afterwards but wouldn't say he was in pain. He didn't feel anything during the procedure and was laughing and having a brew and some biscuits ten minutes after the procedure.

I don't think I would have been willing to have it done (Im 24 too) Im happy that I do not want anymore children but I think the procedure is simpler for men than women.

Not sure about the NHS for you but my DP had his done on the NHS.

HTH a bit

Kathyjelly · 16/03/2010 10:10

My DP had the snip last year on the NHS and it was a twenty minute appointment and then two days feeling a bit sore.

I suggested I had it instead but it's surgically more complicated for women which worried him. He also had health insurance to deal with any after problems but I didn't.

Plus why deny him the weeks of telling people how brave he was.

I really doubt that the NHS would consider sterilising you due to your youth. My ds has eight children, the last two are twins and she asked them to do a tubal ligation while she was having a CS. They turned her down in case she wanted more . She was already 36. Let your dp have it done, no anaesthetic (apart from local) necessary.

kit84 · 16/03/2010 10:42

I'm 25 & DH is 31, he's just been approved for the snip, we also have 2 dc's.
They wouldn't let me be sterilised 'just in case'.
However, my sil was sterilised last year at 26, paid for by the nhs, and she has no children. So I think it depends on the GP/Surgeon and how convincing you are.
I guess they see that I have children, and could at somestage want another, where as my sil has never wanted children, and would not keep a baby if she found herself pg.

herladyshiplovesedward · 16/03/2010 10:48

send your dh, and tell him to be brave

it is a much simpler op for a man (dh had it done at local gp surgery)

Lulumaam · 16/03/2010 10:49

I think that you are far too young to consider thas and should look at other methods of contraception such as a coil or implant or injection, taht are long lasting but essentially reversible

how old are your children?

elsiepiddock · 16/03/2010 11:02

You have to be able to spell it to be eligible

sb6699 · 16/03/2010 11:15

I asked to be sterilised last year and was point black refused because I am considered too young. I am 31 with 3 dcs.

Being practical, it is a much simpler procedure for a man - some have it done in their lunch break apparently.

Alternatively, there are long term methods of contraception readily available and dont involve ANY surgery!

sb6699 · 16/03/2010 11:15

Sorry "point blank refused"

mumof2children · 16/03/2010 11:52

there is not alot of contraception i can use.... pill i will end up forgetting to take...... and hormone based contraception make me bleed constanly.... curently i have been bleeding for 9 weeks.
i am not allowed another coil as 2 has expelled.

i really though don't see the diffrence between me and my df having it done... either way we won't be able to have another baby

mumof2children - you sound just like me, it's not a lot of fun is it. I've tried everything, so we've come to the conclusion that DH having the snip is the only way.

Kit - I can't believe your sil has been sterilised aged 26 without any children. Her choice - ok but imo that is far too young to make that choice!

mumof2children · 16/03/2010 14:01

i have 2 children, a son aged 4 and a daughter almost 1
